Low budget SR5

Post by demby123 »

Picked up an sr5 coupe for $500. I plan on going from auto->manual sr5->GTS conversion -> 20V BT but the latter two won't happen soon. Right now i'm just focusing on getting this car converted to manual.

What it is...

What it will be

Welcome. Not from TX but done some business with you guys.

Put up a build thread of auto>mani swap. I'll be doing the same thing with my sr5 this spring. I'll just do what you do

I just might, however lately i've been having issues replacing my leaking wheel cylinder, I'm wondering if i should keep trying to pull the drum with a puller, or just dump the entire axle and try to find a GTS rear end. I doubt I could afford one though. :(

I'm don't plan on pulling the engine for a while. However, I do have an auto trans laying around

there are 2 holes in the drum that are threaded, make sure the ebrake is OFF, you'll need 2 M8x1.25 bolts, thread them into the holes then tighten them evenly until the drum "pops" and then it will slide off. You may also have to loosen the adjuster from the service hole in the backing plate, depending on how worn the shoes/drums are. And welcome to the garage, and hope the crossmember works out for you.

I've already fixed my brakes, the e brake was somehow jammed on a bit and I pushed the cable back far enough for me to get them off. As for the bolts, every hole was stripped out by them, it was on pretty tight.
