New AE92

Post by Kaidotech »

Hey guys, new to the forum here. I know, I know, it's not an ae86, but it's going to get a 4age head snd cams for a torquie build in the future. Currently it has the 4AFE with a few mild upgrades.

I'm going for a mountain road carving/stance look for the car. If anyone is over on StanceWorks you'll recognize my name (almost 2000 posts over there). The car currently has 13x6 AW11 mesh wheels (sad face). Looking to get some 13x8 +4, or 15x8 +25. (probably enkei 92's).

I actually came here because I live in Houston, Tx and wanted to chat with other Corolla fans. Having a few small troubles with my motor currently (possibly blown head gasket) and was wondering if anyone knew of an easy way to remove the head/cams/gears all in one without unbolting the lower timing cover/pulleys/retime.

I lucked out with this car. It's a 92 that I got for $2700, owned by a little old lady who bought it new then died and it sat in her garage since 2005. Only had 65k miles, 67 now. Unfortunately it's like all the gaskets disintegrated.

Random/ few pics of the car:

It's wrong wheel drive, a sedan, and has a different 4A motor, but it's light, fun to drive and I love it to death.

Current mod list:

-Greddy oil catch can
-Denso Iridium plugs
-Custom 5" short ram intake (deleted box and lower piping) with 4" cone - awaiting HKS super green filter from Japan
-Continental timing belt/tensioner
-Front and rear clarion 2-ways (loud as f-bomb)
-e30 BMW wing

Future mod list:
-Ksport coilovers
-enkei 92's 15x8 +20
-hood bra
-sunroof visor
-manga flow muffler
-Jdm hood mirror (bought, waiting for it to get here from Japan)
-Mach 1 mustang front lip (70s)

Cheers!

The only way I know of to avoid having to re do the. Mechanical timing is to paint match marks on the belt and cam gear.

Yeah I was gonna do that anyways. I heard you can loosen the belt, slide it off the pulley and bungee cord it to the hood to keep tension then remove everything else to do the head gasket job. Thanks for the tip though.

On a side note, I just noticed there is a meet near me every Tuesday night on champion forest that I'm gonna try and make it out to so I can meet some people. :)

Welcome to the boards.

You're practically there with removing the head. Relieve tension on the timing belt w/o it skipping on the lower belt gear then just keep some tension on it while the heads off by either a bungee chord like you mentioned or held on to a prybar jammed between the motor mount and mount point like I did with my 91 Civic (which didn't help anyway because the block and/or head were warped past tolerance).

Again, welcome to the boards.

I saw a turbo kit on eBay for $400 but that seems real shady.

ImageFound these for $80 a piece, debating them for my car now. They're so retro! 14x6 off of an AW11 like my current wheels. Unsure of the offset.

A turbo'd 4AFE reminds me of the 4EFTE that powered the Glanza Turbos.
