Hello from McAllen!

New to the forum but not to Toyotas. No AE86 but a TE75 SR5 coupe with a busted 2TG. Still figuring out what to do.

that should be a 3tc car not a 2tg... and I'm pretty sure it's a te72 not a te75. I had an 82 hatch looked exactly like that...

They are generally recognized as TE72's, but the info plate states it as a TE75. Worldwide, they are known by the E7x series (TE, AE, KE). The beauty of Toyota parts interchangeability means you could put any T motor in it whether it be a 2TC, 3TC, or 2TG: 4AG if you modify or replace the front subframe. I bought the car with a non-running 2TG with a 3TC block. It seemed the former owner/builder forgot to or didn't know how to rejet the carbs properly causing burned valves. :roll: Anybody with info on who has experience on rebuilding the motor in this area?

I agree with McK. Unfortunately, the 2TG, 18RG nor the 3TGE never saw the US shores. Now unless the previous owner installed a 2TG in your nice looking hatch there, it'll most likely be a 1.8l 3TC. It looks nice.

broken down the chassi codes are T (3tc engine) E (corolla) 72 (platform design)
AE86 A(4a block) E (corolla) 86 (platform) [SR5]
AE88 A(4a) E (corolla) 88(platform) [GTS]
AW11 A(4a block) W(mr2) 11 (platform)
and so on.

I hope you guys didn't think that I'm implying the coupe was an original 2TG powered car, as in a Levin or a GT. If so, that is a very rare animal outside of Japanese shores. The car was originally a 3TC but the PO converted it to a 2TG. Here are some pictures of the disassembled motor.

I'm not trying to brag or claim to be a know it all, hell I'm not even that mechanically inclined, but I've been toying around (pardon the pun) with Toyotas and European Fords since 1981 and have owned a few. I'm no real expert, just an old fart with practical experience in old school Toyotas.

The T code in the TE7x chassis designates a T motor (TC=1.4, 2TC=1.6, 3TC=1.8, or 2TG=1.6 DOHC). The 3TGTE or 4TGTE were never installed in Corollas.
