WTB Intake Plenum, Austin, TX (4age 20v silvertop)

Post by TexAE86 »

So I got my hands on an '85 corolla hatch w/ a 4age 20v(silvertop) conversion. It had a few problems, so I took it to a mechanic that has done a lot of conversions in the past. Well, he tells me that the mechanic that did the initial install appeared to have cut a lot of corners, and not done some things the right way. Drilled holes here and there, didn't clean the engine first, etc.

He asked me to procure a specific part for him, to save money and time. I'm not very mechanically savvy, though. He called it the "intake plenum", also refered to it as "intake box". I've searched around, and without understanding what he's asking for I'm just taking shots in the dark. I'm going to ask for clarification from him, but was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on my dilemma, or better yet, point me to a place I could purchase the part needed.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I made this post more than a month ago on club4ag.com, got a number of responses, but they all just stopped responding for some reason at various stages of making the trade. x_x I really need to get this part so my mechanic can get this beautiful little car back onto the streets of Texas.

If you can find out if you can modify the Blacktop Plenum to work, i have one available. you might have to do some reading up to see if it's remotely possible though.

I'll pass on that idea. I just want to get the correct part for my mechanic so isn't forced to ghetto-rig anything. He already told me he really hates doing that and wants the car to be fixed up correctly. I have to agree, though I do thank you for your response. I'm praying I get the part this time around, since its killing me that this beauty isn't traveling the streets and tracks of Austin. Killing me.

the silver top plenum WON'T fit in the bay properly. the only way it would work where the single intake port would be facing the front of the car would be mounting it upside down. the hood will no longer close.

either way there's going to be custom fabrication required regarding the intake plenum for your silvertop (maf unfortunately). it you opted to run with a blacktop ecu and engine harness (map based) you can delete the intake plenum and just run open stacks.

recap:

-factory silvertop intake plenum will require fabrication
-factory blacktop intake plenum will also require modification
-the plenum(s) will need to be mounted upside down to have the single intake port face the front of the car and NOT up against the firewall where it'll be useless.
-mounting the either plenum upside down will no longer allow you to close your hood
-to "86" the plenum you can swap out your silvertop ecu and harness for a blacktop ecu and harness

anyway you turn will require modification/fabrication.
