Is the ac system different between the 4ac and 4ag?

If it isn't I have a complete system on my car .. I don't use it due to the fact that my freon leaked out .. But a summer ago I was running r12 on it after I had new o-rings, flushed out , rebuilt compressor, new lines to the compressor , and tested it for leaks ... But like I said a few months later it leaked out.
