Not a stupid question.

This oil-pump is most definitely found in the Geo Prizm GTi that was outfitted with the High CR (hi-comp) Smallport 4AGE.

Oil pumps most commonly found in the 84-85(86-87 intermittently)4AGE motors sported an oil pump design where the drive gear teeth were shaped more like teeth e.g. had sharp edges and corners. They tended to explode at continuous high rpm use.

In my honest opinion, it's not more oil pressure that these bottom ends need (in regards to shimming) but it's good, consistent pressure and no interruption in oil delivery to rods, mains, etc...

Some crank work and an Accusump would work wonders. Conrad Race Engines at Canino and Airline can perform the crank work. If anyone goes by there just mention that Jonas highly recommended them to you.
