Re: civic gas mileage mods poll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
final results: 575.9 miles turns out the car actually has a 11.5 gallon tank which puts me right at 50.07 mpg. Without the rush hour and killer head wind going up I think my numbers would be even better but still I am very surprised at the results. With some permanent style mods I think I can get in the 60 mpg range with no engine mods/weight reduction.

Re: civic gas mileage mods poll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow, that's really amazing will. good job on the "fuel economy" study seriously.
of all the mods you performed on the car, which do you think were the most beneficial?
maybe you (or someone else but you've got the base/constant established now) can remove one of the mods and do further testing.
i'm guessing that the 50 psi air pressure and rear wheel covers were the biggest factors. that's my guess.

Re: civic gas mileage mods poll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
front air defuser that he made out of cardboard definitely did the mpg, the rear fender skirts came apart, if they were molded rather than made out of tape they could have easily given 1-2mpg. I believe the front defuser gave 3-4mpg and Wills conservative driving gave 5-6mpg+. I drove this civic to mineral wells with no modifications driving between 55-60mph windows up 45psi tires getting approx 45mpg.
Future mods to increase, Alloy wheels for less weight with smooth covers (Possibly large plates glued). I want to make custom fender skirts for the front that "pop out" during normal turning, and rear skirts. Smaller front and rear tires with the same track (front has to block the rear). Wax the entire car and use better tape for seems Tape over the side trim, repairing the cracked bumpers, taping rear seems. Retract the AM/FM antenna.
I really think with a experienced MPG pilot such as will, this civic is capable of 60MPG with a few more mods. Believe it or not the only engine mods that will help are pulley swaps (Less rotational weight) , retuned ecu dyno tuned with a wideband, removal of the rear muffler. Aftermarket exhaust systems will not provide an effective gain but the removal of the factory muffler will free up a huge amount, 1-2mpg from less engine backpressure, weight loss, wind drag. I've got extensive research in high mpg Honda's, if will is down for it we can really push this civic to 60, but I want 65+mpg.
