Thinking of making the leap to F20.
Well, after daily driving my carbed 4ag ae86 around the past few months, I have came to the realization that it is still going to take a ton of learning to ever get these carbs running like they should. They run fine now but I know this isn't ideal for a DD.
I have an 07 GSXR that I am thinking of selling to fund a F20c swap. I've owned supra's, sti's, turbo is300's and I always come back to these old corollas. Since I don't plan on selling my current AE86, I figure dropping in a newer, more reliable powerplant could make this thing a lot better day to day and a lot more fun to drive. With plug and play wiring kits being available to use with the stock ecu and mounting kits being available this seems like a good option.
Any of you guys ever done the swap before?
Only thing I might have trouble finding is somewhere to do the driveshaft mating. I would also be on the hunt for an lsd to upgrade from my stock zenki lsd. Either that or maybe trade the whole rearend for a celica/supra rear end. I would also have a carb set-up that would be for sale once all this gets underway (and I'm not too far from good old TX). If you guys have any tips or ideas on the driveshaft let me know.

Where exactly are you located so that maybe one of us might be able to point you in the direction of a local driveshaft shop?
F20C is a good motor and check with nt66 (a.k.a. Will Parsons) regarding the swap. He has 2: one for dedicated to competition, the other was the competition chassis but will be driven more on the street).

Thanks dr.occa, I am located in Tulsa, OK. This will be going on masterchiefs old coupe. It is still running great with the hei ignitor like he set up years ago. The car is simply immaculant, stock paint is almost perfect, interior is perfect. Hell, the stock bumper rod supports aren't even bent, I've never seen those intact before.
I figure with the car being so clean, I should drop some good money into it and bring it up to date and make it my primary. Since drift events don't exist in ok, this will mainly be a streetable car that I can enter into shows and still take to Hallet (our local road coarse). I plan to get all the wiring plug and play from a 4ag member to make things easier as well. Hopefully I can sell someone my complete carb set up because it runs great.

The Celi-Supra rear end will be your best bet. Will runs one with his F20c setup and IIRC, he secured another one for his new track dedicated F20AE86.
So you ended up with Master Chief's "Corolla Project". Very cool. Does it still run on locked out timing? It must if it's still running the HEI module.

Yes this is masterchiefs old project and it still runs on the locked timing. I was going to upgrade to MSD and rebuild the motor and then I thought, screw it f20c time. Who'm I kidding, I'll never make the mistake of selling another corolla so I might as well make this my dream car.
As for the rearend. I am undecided. A lot of people use the GTS rear still(JSP does and competed in FD for quite a while on a welded GTS rear, now he competes with gts rear and a kaaz 2way). I don't plan to drift this too often (I am more likely to autocross than clutch kick all day). I know the celica/supra rear end would be ideal but I am a little worried on finding a good condition one, then I would still need to buy something like the T3 panhard and 4link setup to get it all in correctly. With the motorswap costing so much, I am somewhat leaning towards strengthening my stock lsd or try to locate a trd 1.5 way. I'm really not sure which way to go here. I think I will be a lot lighter on my car than most f20c corollas but I'd hate to get it all done and snap the axels on my first drive.

have you considered the weir performance axles? wier will modify aftermarket lsd to accept the 30mm axles too?

If anything then at least maintain a 2 piece drive shaft to help with absorbing some of the pounding.
As for the timing, if you could give that carb'd setup a proper timing curve, it would run so much better and healthier. It's not as difficult as you might think. It just needs a distributor from say a 3TC, 20/22R (not 22RE) , the driven gear from a 4AG dist, a gutted 4AG or 3/4AC dizzy body and then a machine shop.

Yea, I plan to use a two piece driveshaft and will probably just do a rebuild kit on my stock LSD and see how it works. I can get a beefed up t3 rebuild kit for pretty cheap. I am going to do some conversing with John at JSP and see what his opinions are on that lsd option. I know he has done this swap on multiple cars now which helps.
As for the carbs. It was set up on a 3TC dizzy at one point. He said the ignitor cost was rediculously high when it went out which is why he switched back to the HEI setup. I honestly just don't want to put any money into the carb set up if I am not going to keep it. If the motor was in better condition, I would fix the carb set up and drive it until she blew but since the motor is going to need a rebuild eventually, I might as well sell everything as it works and get extra money to fund this f20 swap. I'm hoping to get all this underway here pretty soon but if the bike takes to long to sell, I might look into more.

the HEI module can easily take the place of the Toyota ignitor. How do I know this? I run one on my daughter's '81 Corona liftback 22R. It even gives the tach its needed signal to work.

what carb setup does the engine have, if you sell let it, let me know. im interested in it and dont mind looking for a 3tc dist.

Dellorto DHLA40's I beleive. It runs fine right now with the bluetop dizzy(I think that's what's in there), I drive the car everyday.
I'll definitely be listing the whole setup forsale. Motor, trans, manifold, carbs, linkage, fpr, eletronic fuel pump etc.. I'd like to sell the whole carb setup complete to make things easy and help someone out that is needing the whole sha'bang.

Also, from people I've talked to -- one guy ran a zenki rear and and shredded it. However, after swapping in a kouki one, he said he never had any issues. That includes a bunch of drift events.

F20's aren't super torquey, so I guess the stock rear ends COULD hold up

I think I am going to try my chances and if worst comes to worst, go the weir route. I talked to ht66 and that is what he is running and a few others, granted they drive those cars far more spiritedly than I do.
I'll definitely keep everyone informed when I start pulling things off to sell. This should be fun
