yea the fuel consumption is pretty bad but there are ways around it i have seen ppl with 25mpg 13b's just gotta know your stuff and the 13b can be fast well my friend's is 300+ to the wheels and very reliable minus his ecu going out a little while backOverdrift wrote:Never seen a rotary explode unlike piston engines which I have seen many times. Rotaries have fragil seals and apex seals but if you dont cheap out like the wise one above stated "Expensive aftermarket apex seals" and don't overheat it, it will be a great race engine. I just dislike the fuel consumption. I would baby my 13b and get 15mpg highway, it felt like fun but wasn't very fast lol.

lol ok ok look at the big picture here...... As soon as ANYONE gets ahold of a 4AC 86 what are there first plans for it??? Header? nope.. Aftermarket carb? nope.. Rebuild the engine?...NOT EVEN CLOSE cause no one wantsto mess with the 4AC cause of the lack of time , money and alot of you would say its a waste. So everyone does the 4AG swap. So I looked around and looked for a whileuntil I started to think of the swaps I could do... but yet keep it a import and light. Well the Chevy 350 engine...Well its played out alot. hhmmm what about a Datsun L28? look similar to engine mounting. but then that takes out the weight advantage. hmmm.....KA24 simple...relaible...fun....torque buff.....then I was like...I know as soon as I go to a meet 240 guys would say if I took all that time swapping a KA in there why not go with the SR20? So I said F**K IT!!! then while I was at the junk yard one day I was looking for parts for my Roadster and then stumbbled apon a 1981 RX7 FA 5 speed. As I was looking over the car a little light bulb popped on over my big head. Then BAM!!!!!! I knew the engine I was gonna go with. So I pulled it out of the car and took it home and had a friend teachme a little something about RX7 engiine building and how they need a diffrent engine stand to rebuild them and how many bolts hold the rear housing on and wow there are alot of stuff I really didnt know about them until 2 days ago. Well if you are on craigslist in the SA area there is a guy named Sanchez selling a swapped AE86 with a rotary. That was the guy I talked to as well for doing the swap And he will be helping me with the swapas well. By the way any engine is good as long as you maintain it and look after it.

the wankels sound so good when they rev up into the power band.
unfortunately, as others have already pointed out: fuel consumption for power is poor. torque band is in the higher registers BUT (and that's a big BUTT ) it climbs into the power band very rapidly: quicker than your regular 4 stroke. it wraps up like a 2 stroke motorcycle.
it has its benefits: less moving parts.
proper up keep of the wankers can general net the owner a good life out of them. the owners just have to keep in mind it consumes oil ON PURPOSE.
there's a coupe in FL that has a 13b w/ a single DCOE style sidedraught putting down 160 atw. nothing spectacular about the motor. just another FC rotary.
just need the appropriate engine & tranny mounting. get one with the harness and ecu if you like along with all the appropriate ignition components (multi coil, waste spark style i believe - can someone confirm that...or is it sequential???).

Wow they constanly blow? What mechanic are you going to that this always happens to?? lol I mean yea some onecan do a record engine build attempt and build one bad ass power hogging engine but its just the Rotarys take a little more love and attention to build and work with. If its anything that I learned from my few weeks with rotary engine engines is that when biulding them you HAVE TO BE EXACT ON EVERYTHING. Check once and check it twice and go do it a 3rd time just to be sure and after that guess what do it again! The sound froma rotary is unique in its own way. Especially with a mild street port and exhaust. And have you seen just the engine by itsself with no tranny? that thing is half the size of the 4AG and just plain sexy. Go on youtube and search 12a exhaust and marvel the sound of a good tuned rotary. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (cue evil dark laugh) And it fits in all 3 catagories FUN...FAST...RELIABLE.mooreofit wrote:apex seals blow constantly under major power.
the 4 rotors sound so beautiful though.

this holds true for every motor. not just a rotary. i trust rings more than i trust apex seals. ive seen them fail more than ive seen rings go.
also there are more combustion events per revolution of the ecentric\crankshaft shaft in the rotary as stated the fuel consumption is higher.
i'm just not a fan of mixing and matching engines. you can get out of the 4a what the 2rotor makes with more torque to boot.rotaries are cool for mazda's

and this is true you can get decent power out of the 4ag, you could even go gze but it's his choice and i believe it's easier to make the 12a faster and cheaper than compared to throwing a ton of $$ into a 4ag to barely get to 150 to the wheels (although i love my 4ag :D )mooreofmick wrote:because its blaspheme you can make a good amount of power with your 4ag
