putting on ITB'S

Post by DjSpecter »

A fellow 86 owner and a friend of mine just got me on a good time and i got ahold of some ITB's from his silvertop and its the full itb's with that black funky looking airbox thing. My question is would I need a custom computer to run these or just simple bolt in and run it like that? Oh and there going on a Redtop 4age  and advise will help. and another question is would it make a diffrence on a engine that only has headers and full exhaust? I know this sounds stupid but is there a DIY or HOW TO on making the itb's work with your car. I already know I need to get the Vaccum block and bigport conversion thing from techno toy tunning. But is anyone else running ITB'S on there car as well? what is your experince with them and are they worth putting on in performance wise and not sound wise. lol

There is a ton of info on this... you will not be able to run them on a stock ecu. T3 does make an adapter for both the small port and big port.

On another subject... do you still need an sr5 throttle cable?

You prob can run them with a stock ecu bur it will not run great. You will need the ecu from the 20 valve or get a stand alone. I have a stand alone and it works great. With a stock ecu from a 20 valve you will be cutting ALOT of wires and splices. Almost better to just go stand alone. Here is mine.

if i'm not mistaken you can pick up a jdm ecu cause they don't run maf. or at least that is what i was told by my friend when i was trying to get rid of my maf on my old corolla.

to echo what HondaRue (among many other experienced 4AGE tuners from Japan, US, Europe and Oz over the years) has stated, YOU CANNOT RUN ITBS ON A STOCK BLUE/RED TOP 16V ECU, and especially non-map based setups. you'll need to go aftermarket ecu (e.g. haltech, autronics, megasquirt, etc...), convert to a map ecu and harness (good chance it still won't work properly due to air flow limitations in the factory tables) or try and run the 20v harness and ecu.

T3 has the necessary adapter or try and fab one up on your own yourself or through a local cnc shop.

Cause I have my AE92 Levin redtop and wanted to throw that in the corolla and sell the Levin front end conversion and do the GTS swap in my corolla as well as to add the ITB's and see if its a easy swap. Can anyone point me in the direction on info where to do it and how its done?

My opinion.... start with getting a running gts conversion in stock form before adding more complications.

I thought your ae86 was an sr5???

*** EDIT ***

I understand what you're saying.... ITB's in the ae92 and later put it in the ae86. Sorry for the confusion

Its pretty much just style points and sound. Our Sentra SE-R makes a similar sound with an AEM intake.
