Ok this is year 2010? Does it mean that any 1986 ae86 can skip emission test now?
Since it skip on any car older than 24 years old.

i think it goes down deeper than that. if you look inside your door, you'll see the month/year your car was built. i believe it depends on that date.

I know I just got inspection done on my 85 gts.. it was easy as pie.. and only $15. I don't know if it goes down to months or not he just asked me what year it was., then did the safety stuff.

Spoke to the inspector. 1985 and older are good for safety inspection. 1986 have to wait next year.

Yup. That's how mine is... I was 12 months shy of emissions exemption. But they will go by the date on your door! So, one month early of 2011 for me!

I am an inspector, A car that is 2 years old or 25 years and older is a safety only inspection. So an 1985 is a safety only now and next year in 2011 it will be 1986. A safety only inspection is $14.50 and a Full inspection (safety and emissions) is $39.75. Any car that is older than 96 has to have an ASM emission test, aka the dyno. For those of you who dont know this is where they put a sniffer up the tail pipe and run the car at 15mph and 25mph, A car will pass when they motor is under so many RPMS and puts out the right amount of gases. Now lets say you have an 87 GTS corolla that is all stock and it fails the ASM. Well heres a tip for you guys, when they run the car you can ask for them to do a RPM bypass, this then lets them run the car in a lower gear and at higher revs. Sometimes this can be the trick to pass, not a lot of people know about this so I hope this helps some of yall.

good info.

on a side note. i have just cammed my 03 monte carlo. it doesnt idle that great and you can definatly smell the unburnt fuel of the misfire. right now it is only missing 3 readiness codes. one is for the a\c, one is the catalist, and the other my b1 o2 is out. i hear i only need to pass 8 rediness codes. i can get the o2 fixed but i dont plan on getting the a\c pressurized again till spring.

so as long as i have no codes(p300 and the such) and can pass 8 readiness codes i should be ok? will they note the misfire and the fuel smell?

It differs for each car, but most of the time the computer will only let like one maybe two "not ready's" pass so I say try to get as many "ready's" as you can. As for the misfire, if the check engine light isnt on and your not throwing any codes you should be fine there, an OBD2 emissions test is all done through the car itself. Again, if you could go to your local inspection station where you know the guys are chill just ask to run it in training mode. Tell them your story, you just camed it and are trying to work the bugs out to get it to pass inspection.

No Problem, There is a lot about the Texas state inspection that people just dont know because the state does nothing to inform people. Its really not that hard to pass an inspection.

just for some instight .... sense the gts needs to run on 91 anyways ... in california we would drop octane booster in the tank also dont turn your car off at the while waiting ... this really helps to pass smog ... sorry but i dont know how strict texas smog laws are... like if theres a visual test first and you no your car will pass we usually taped about 150 dollers to the intake so it will pass visuals. lol...

anyways ... if you dont pass ask for the sheet... and look at your readings certin reading comes out from certian things like NO2 or CNO2 or whatever i would have to look at the print outs but like that would ually be your ignition tuning parts like plugs wires so on lol... not burning the air fuel mixture right... but then agian im not sure what there smoging here for...

again if you read this far try putting the specied octane in and a octane booster, and keep your motor running while waiting for it to get checked... basically keep your car at running temps.. hopefully that helps the person on a budget lol... gas booster run ... it works
