Bob is the oil guy is a good site on information for engine oil. I personally use Valvoline 10w-40 recycled oil with a greedy oil filter.

Fix all your oil leaks i.e. oil pan, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, etc...run Amsoil. I run it in my wife's 2000 Sienna. Pulled the valve cover a couple of months back to replace the gaskets and it was pristine in their: nice healthy warm yellow/orange and spic 'n span.
I personally run Castrol GTX 10W-30 in my AE86s.

I'm a fan of Royal Purple, I've run it for years in most of my cars. My 1uz has had nothing but Royal Purple run thru it since the car was new, the inside of my motor was spotless! If you're gonna run conventional oil I'd recommend Castrol GTX. I ran Mobil1 in all my GM cars as they use it from the factory. But in my Toyotas I only run Royal Purple or Castrol.
And Royal Purple isn't just dyed purple, I've followed their research for over 13 years. The Synerlec additive in Royal Purple helps it resist breakdown, increases its lubricity, resists thermal degradation, and it's one of the few oils that still contain Zinc(which is important especially in older engines), and you can safely go 12,000 miles on an oil change... as long as your filter is a longlife one or you regularly change the filter.

I used to use Castrol 10w30 high mileage with a Toyota OEM filter, I've switched to mobil 1 high mileage, same weight same filter. I like it, feels like it responds a bit better. Probably just me though.
