1986 Nissan 200SX aka S12 trade for AE86 coupe.

Post by DjSpecter »

Well as i was washing my hatch today a young guy pulled up on my lawn with what I thought to be another AE86 hatch but was a 1986 200sx. We were talking for a while and then he popped the question...would you be willing to trade your car for mine? I told him my car was a SR5 and not a GTS and he still was like So...yes or no? lol I told him IDK. let me think. So now im in the middle of either trading it or keeping it
I dont know what to do. lol I love the AE coupe but I like that S12 he has. I means its RWD and fuel injected and its all around bad ass. is there alot you can do to the stock S12 engine? like headers and intake and such?

hmmm, a bit of a quandary you have there Dj.

the gazelles are cool vehicles too. i've known of owners to drop in a the VG v6 from the 300zx/maxima. SR20s, etc but if you're seriously interested, check out Club S12.

here's one thing though, when your AE86 is gone and you see it again all fixed up, you may just regret not sticking by it. it's a completely different experience building up a car you're enamored with than buying one that you like that's already where you'd like for your car to be. fixing that SR5 will take patience and your dedication to it. you can't replace that personal journey with buying an already fixed up vehicle that looks like an 86 but isn't.

the S12 owner has probably always wanted an 86 but settled for the gazelle. he's already shown some dedication by fixing up what he has settled for but it's not an 86. he's still willing to trade his S12 and hard work for your bare bones SR5. that should tell you something.

anyway, just some things to consider.

choose wisely friend and then be satisfied with your choice.

I never thought of it that way. I mean I never owned a S12 but I have owned a 240 but didnt like it at all so I sold it right away for like 300. But then again the S12 does look like the AE. But I understand the dedication it takes to make a car look fantastic and not poopy. I seen alot of nice 86 out there that look VERY VERY NICE. But I never seen a S12 look good at all...in fact I never even seen a S12 in San Antonio lol. I have some hard thinking to do today.

In North America we got three engine options:

CA20E
CA18ET
VG30E

Another thing you have to think about is the S12 is going to be much tougher to modify since the aftermarket for it is basically non-existant compared to the AE86. Thats a big deal for me.
