what nt66 (aka Will) is saying is true. honda also incorporated this in their f22 engines. the idea is developing a primary-> secondary hand off for power/trq at lower rpms threw to mids where then "secondaries" open up for the "hand off" so to speak. just like carburetors. it's what is known as the venturi affect.
to see an illustration of this same technique working in action see the colt cams thread w/ accompanying dyno sheets that NonStopTuning had tested and published the findings.
I wish I still had the low-end power my blue-top did...
Now with the smallport + blue-top intake + eliminated TVIS, I really miss TVIS. I have NO low-end power and tons of top end power. So....let's just say....hills SUCK for me.
Just curious, I've always wondered this. Can you mount the T-VIS on a smallport? As in:
largeport intake -> TVIS -> T3 adaptor plate -> smallport head
Or maybe I should just get a fabbed smallport head where the intake is reversed mounted for RWD?

that's surprising that you would have no low-end using a smallport. the reason for the tvis on the lareport was due to the intake ports being LARGE. air velocity highly affects your torque curve. the tvis worked as secondaries as engine speed and vacuum picked up. the smallport w/ their narrower inlets helped create that beneficial venturi and generated better low mid range trq w/o the aid of TVIS. i know you're using the largeport intake w/ T3 adapter to smallport, so it's possible that the larger runners prior to the adapter is affecting your bottom end. are you possibly using a lightened/lighter flywheel too?
No lightened flywheel. It's really weird how little bottom-end power I seem to have. Maybe I forgot something or messed something up when I swapped the engine...
My intake seems to be gasping for air all the time (as in when the car's at idle, there's sound like air being sucked in)....so maybe something's wrong?
AH yes... The 4ac, toyota's abused and misunderstood child. Held back a grade, rampent with ADD it was left in the slow class.
But with enough ridlin and special attention even this engine can be great.
The cars you guys are bringing out don't really make a fair playing field at all for the special olympics, but damnit ! We're gonna give it our all.
