If your timing was at 10 BTDC at idle try setting it at 13° or 14° BTDC at idle with 93 octane. Time to arm yourself buddy...with a timing gun!
Compression does play an important role as to how beneficial the higher octane fuel and timing advance combination is.

no more than 12*? must be a gtp guy.
n\a around 40* and you will be firing on the upstroke of the piston. you also dont want to hit the pistons on their dwell. the sweet spot seems to be around 34 to 36* on most n\a applications. high comp differs. as does boost. i get knock around 16*. my little brothers gtp powered car is about the same. so i keep it at 12* if i was turbo on the same boost i could run around 22*. point is there are too many variables to just say a certain number(unless your toyota and you have warranties to think about.) make a set of det cans , advance untill you hear knock. pull 4*

well i have a stock motor with a TRD .5mm head gasket
as for what my timing is i'm not sure. 2 years ago i got back from Florida and the timing was off so i just turned the dizzy and revved until it sounded good lol
i guess i'll get to timing and see if i can squeeze some ponies out of her for round 2.
what's the order for timing and the diagnosis box?
