Engine idle problem

Post by yashiro86 »

Hey guys the other day I was driving and at a stop light the rpms dropped to about 600, then my gas light went off...so i filled up and the roblem went away. Well today I started her up and drove to downtown and everything was fine until I was leaving DT. I started her up and she was idling at about 600 then she just died out on me. I started her back up and then I drove back home and stopped off to get some stuff. Then turned her on again and she sounds like she wanted to die...the engine was pretty much coughing. The weird thing is when i would b at a stop light and press the break she would jump back to about 1K rpm...I find this very weird and I have no clue what it could be...any help?? Please?

Also I dunno if this helps but i noticed when i would drive at around 3K rpm the oil gauge would be at 3/4 when I would be at a stop/stop light and the rpms would drop the gauge would also drop to about 1/2.

Thanks for all the help!

oil pressure fluctuation(higher pressure at higher rpm and vice versa)is normal, your problem with dying sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

Thanks McKenney, I told my friend to ask his gf's dad who is a mechanic and he said the same thing. I could be a vacuum leak, possibly from the brake booster. He told me to pinch the line from the booster, if it stops then its the brake booster giving out. Hopefully ill get a change to try and test it. Thanks for the help!
