could a 20v distributor be hooked up to a 16v? is the gear the same?

or would a 16v have a igt signal that you could tie the cop's to?

unfortunately, the 20v dist would not work with a 16v setup except possibly with a standalone and as a CAS so long as the dizz assembly fit in the 16v's distributor location. if too large than it can be machined fairly cheaply to fit the head or vice versa but the latter would be more of a point of no return with that head.

well on my friends gze i know the ecu has a igt wire, i wonder if it would work in the same manner.

i still have my doubts due to the 20v's distributor pickup wheel. the 16v ecu would have to know how to interpret the signals from the vr sensor(s). also as a reminder the 20v distributor connector has the following signals G1 G2 G & Ne. possibly the latter map gze with the coilpacks may be a usable ecu. i'm only guessing and mentally experimenting

hello. im in the process of almost finishing my DLI COP on my blacktop 20v.

I am running 1zz cop's on stock m/t blacktop ecu. I have NO coil and igniter on this setup. I'm running Dakota Digital sgi-8 to drive my autometer tach.

-my blacktop won't rev past ~5k
-my tach will stop working above 3.5k

My suspect is that this setup NEED its igniter / coil, just what dr. occa illustrated on the digram. I have corresponded to a member in club4ag that had the same issues I'm having. He said when he put back his coil/igniter, everything works fine, with tach to boot.

i have the coil/igniter in my car, and it runs excellent.

at one point i had an igniter, but no coil and it ran, but my tach wasnt working.

but how do you keep the coil from arcing if it is not connected to a dizzy?

i found a vaccum plug thing and just taped it to the coil. hasnt eaten through the rubber yet

Another option to keep the coil from arcing is to take a plug wire, connect it to the coil. Then, take a spare spark plug, remove the end/tip and screw it to something like the MSD power tip (p/n: 8803) which in turn is secured somewhere to the chassis.

you don't need a fifth coil to run this set up. Get rid of it and use the IGF off one of the coilpacks.

I did, that was my original setup: No coil or igniter, just straight up COP's. It won't rev beyond ~5k and It won't drive the tach above 3.5k (w/ SGI-8).

Maybe I should introduce just the igniter? IGf still from the COP?
