theres No one generic way to setup a car. its driver preference. alingment settings vary between drivers, driving style ect.

basic stuff to Stiffen the chassis:

Full cage
coilovers/linear rate springs
good shocks
strut bars
chassis braces
stitch welding

suspension alignments and things depend on driver and what you want ect

for the most part it is good to learn on stock suspension and upgrade as you get better but yea there is no one setup it is all preference

get some basic lowering springs and a set of shocks, factory lsd or a welded diff and go have fun.

Welded diff FTW!! I dont see a point spending over 300 for a lsd when you can weld it and have it fully locked.

1. lowering springs/ good shocks
2. welded diff
3. seat
4. take everything out of car
5. roll cage (only if you got the money)
6. fix that slopy rear end (i.E--4 link and pan hard bar and)
7. good tires in the front and junk yard / normal tires in the rear.

i enjoy my welded diff. its predictable. I know its locked and you can feel it better.

your above desription best describes my car :D :D

well i know that much... about the suspension part what i meant was stitching up the body for all the use and abuse.... I was wondering the steps to make the chassis stronger,(besides the roll cage and strut bars and sway bars..etc) and the welding to make the frame stronger... :D

Do you really want to go that route?? cause i mean its not really worth it unless you track your car very often. I mean your not really going to notice any diffrence if your driving it daily. But only when you get on the track where you can relly open it up and attack the corners like nothing. If you really want to set it up for drifting then just get suspension parts first cause were talking about a 20+ year old car. and alot of those rubber bushings are justr brittle and cracking. if your serious about stitch welding then i say go for it but are you tracking your car alot? and by alot I mean more then 3 to 4 times a month? if not then the steps listed before with some

1. top strut bars
2. stabalizer bars

your car should be stiff. the only reason I dont like stitch welding is cause its time consuming and some people only think welding the engine bay is the way to go.....YEA RIGHT since your doing the engine bay you might as well do the rest of the car. and yes you can do the rest of the car (trunk , interior floor , engine bay) all that can do the same as previously things stated above and more. Unless your a die hard time attack and drift fanatic then by all means im behind you and would love to see you do it but if not then i see no point.

I know it sounds like im being a D**K but im not. yes I drive a SR5 and not a gts. But we can all say that when we first drove our cars we knew that the body roll has to go. And for the guys who can agree with me that just adding coilover and strut bars just took ALOT of the body rool away. So to be honest with you the money and time you spend on stich welding your car can be better spent upgrading your suspension and getting your moneys worth. Cause drifting is ALL ABOUT SUSPENSION SET UP!

joel, i think you're familiar with the stitch welding but look into how old muscle car & hot rod tuners made their "carriages" stronger w/o the intrusive cage.

i think you know what i'm talking about.

remember: steel tube is your friend :)

i've got another project that i'll be implementing soon you and others may like.

i know what u talking about jonas... i guess i get my dads help since he really likes muscle cars and know a great deal about stiffing up the chassi but then again i was looking to shave pounds off the car but i guess safety firs.. well thanks everyone for the help... :D

everything depends on what you want to do and how stiffy you want it lol...

like for instance you can do a coil over set up upgrade the sway bars do all the sespension bushings to urithan and and add a strut bar front and rear. conect the frame together so you dont get that body tweak and lateral bars and what not but you may hate the way it feels it may be to tight for you and others it is not ... you can go good stiff adj. shocks and eibach lowering springs and conect the frame and that would give you a stiff but not neck braking ride. and my oppinion on lsd or welded diff.. i beleave lsd. or even lockers if the make them for the 86 but not weld.. see theres a reason a tire spens on faster then the other when making a turn. if you weld you loss that its constintly locked and you may not want that all the time some autos will cherp when turning and can you say ticket . and if it rans can you say oversteer lol... but some cars it dont with a lsd you can have that normal turning but it will lock when you want it to and if its still not predictive enough for you you can always put some brake fluid in the diff lol... and that will lock it faster lol... haha....

just for the record if you have no money and can't afford suspension parts stitch welding the car is not a bad way to go. It costs a very little amount of money and you will immediately notice a difference in the way the car drives (at least I did). It will take a ton of hours to do it right but if you have no money and lots of time its well worth it.

so ur saying that just good suspension parts will make drift ready to try to compete...? and try to avoid any chassis distortion and frame twisting...lmao if any can happen...? :D
