i already have the mr2 manual rack and t3 bushing... but i know for a fact that it wont just bolt up to the intermidiate shaft the way it is now from preavious build. ive heard that you use the mkIII supra intermidiate shaft and u-joint. but is there a specific year and model you need?

I picked a u-joint up from the junkyard off of a tercel. I think it was an early to mid 90's Tercel with Pwr Steering. You can also use the AW11 U-joint, because the Supra intermediate shaft can be extended out far enough to reach the AW11 or Tercel U-joint. Then it's just a matter of getting the AE tie rod ends on the rack and bolting things together.

the appropriate p/n for the manual rack u-joint between rack and column is as follows:

45209-32010

but you're looking at $170 from toyota.

you just need the mkIII supra intermidiate shaft and a mr2 u joint for it to bolt up. also you will need the manual rack mounts or a t3 mount conversion.

sean, do the splines match up between the AW11 u-joint and the mkIII inter. shaft?

ok, looking over the intermediate shafts between the 86 and the supra. the mkIII int. shaft connects to the top half by slipping into another u-joint and then locked in with a bolt just like it does at the junction where it bolts to the steering rack.

the 86 inter. shaft connects to the upper portions also by a u-joint BUT IT IS part of the u-joint.

what am i missing folks?

there is a u joint with a tube connected to it on the top but it is part of the steering column and is not removable. there is some adhesive that holds the intermidiate shaft in the steering column tube. iv heard heat or some elbow grease will get the shaft out. since the mkIII is so long you dont have to worry about regluing it back in. so just get the stock int. shaft out and install the mkIII shaft and your done.

i'll have to give it a good once over sean. i was about to pull one out of an MKIII at the yard but it was already gone. the ma was virtually unmolested. then a week later the entire car had disappeared.
