bluetop vs gze

i was thinking about this

i know the bluetop and gze aren't too different (im not sure all of the little differences) but would a rebuilt bluetop be just as good to boost compared to a gze that came with a s/c already? im not sure if the gze is better in the long run or if the bluetop would perform just as well

There are quite a few differences actually. Blue top doesnt have near as much reinforcement as the 7 rib gze block does. GZE comes with forged ceramic coated pistons, larger crank diameter (42mm vs 40mm in bluetop) and I believe the rods are stronger as well. Plus you can get piston squirters in some of the 7 rib blocks as well. All in all the GZE is a much stronger more reliable block. Now if your going NA, then you can stick with the bluetop block, but for forced induction applications the 7 rib is the way to go. 7 ribs arent that hard to come by either. Quite a few different versions for sale on here and club4ag at the moment.

i'm in agreement with Made.

your best bet for boosted applications will always be the 7 rib block and 42mm crank. hi-comp, gze, silvertop internals for sturdier guts. the latter gze block internals will be your ceramic coated internals.

the gze rods are forged. and so is the crank from what i hear.

in my book gze is the best bang for the buck, as far as 4ag goes

Thats IF you can find one. Its a PITA when I was looking for mine and the one i found didnt pass inspection.

car-parts.com have them, but they want quite a bit for them.
