getting ready for the nst event...

so i started thinking. i don't have enough money right now to have my car where i would like it to be for the nst event. so i decided to get what i can with what i have. i wanted full coilover's but don't have the money. so i opt'd for whats in budget, sw20 stock front shocks and new front tires. that should keep the front from dipping. what do you guys think? i figured with what i need, the shocks and front tires i can get away with spending about $300 and still be able to do decently.

running 14's on the back and new 15's on the front. i stripped out all the sound deadening and everything under the dash to make the car as light a i can. what do you guys think? any suggestions, keeping it around the same budget?

front of the mr2 is very light they will not last you. also, they are shorter, you plan on running a spacer llke the one t3 makes? go with ae92 front cartridges, velved better, heavier front car, and shouldn't be too expensive. guys in japan have been doing this for a while, i personally haven't tried it though.

According to Gabe at T3... the sw20 front suspension was copied from the celica (engine in the front) so there is no problem using the sw20 front struts on an ae86. Again this info came from Gabe

agx work on the ae86 because they are valved differently than the stock cartriges. might be same suspension goemetry but i doubt it is the same valving as the celica. ae92 have the same length as the mr2 ones. i'm sure most have seen that video of ueo's set up, i can't find that video, i think he used ae92 shocks.

found it. seems like trd short strokes are for ae92. trd short strokes are much better than kyb agx's which is gabe's standard shocks for his coilovers.

landslide, don't know your welding abilities, but, if you have some springs and or top hats you can make some front coilovers. just shorten your housings by 4 cm and weld in a collar. i have some spare aluminum sleeves in good condition you can have just give me 10 buckes for shipping. if you don't have springs i have 2 sets 9kg and 8 kg you can borrow either for a short period, not willing to sell though. if you buy top hats buy the ones from gabe, with the needle bearings. those work the best.

setting up the coilovers i'm going to do at a later time. right now i'm trying to get what i need to make the event with what i have. i was thinking about getting some stock monroe shocks and dropping them in since they are about $100 for the pair. a good set of front tires. and lighten the car as much as i can and shift the weight around a bit. keep in mind this is just for this event. work with whatcha got.

yes, i ran those before and never had issues. nissan/datsun guys run those as well with heavier engines than the 4ag. i was referring to stock sw20 shocks.

i doubt anyone runs stock sw20 shocks. you will be on your own on that. however, you will find people running ae92 doing a google search...
