mr2Rudy's 16v & 20v block question(s)
I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I have a pretty much complete (disassembled tho) 16valve 4age that is of the earlier variety with the blue letters on the valve cover. Getting ready to have it put together but I'm a little worried cuz it goes not have oil squirters on the bottom of the pistons. I know someone who is willing to sell me their 20v 4age bare block but I don't want to buy it until I know for sure that all my other parts (crank, cyl head, stock pistons, rods, computer, etc) will work with that 20v block. The car needs quite a bit of work so trying to keep to cost of building the motor low and fairly simple. Not really building it to race but I am pretty hard on my daily drivers.

The 20v and 16v bottom ends are nearly identical. The cranks are interchangeable BUT not necessarily the rods. You can run a 20v crank in your 16v block and vice versa but your 16v (the one you're specifically describing) most likely has 40mm rod journals on the crank while all 20v cranks run 42mm rod journals. If you choose to run the 20v bottom end with your 16v head you "can" leave the pistons and everything as is even with the 20v valve relief pistons. The motors are still non-interference unless you go with a thinner head gasket then you'll most likely see minute dings in the piston where the 16v valves are just kissing the tops.

but if youre just trying to install all 16v stuff into the 20v block, then that will work fine, right?
