hey guys heres a little update on the 1UZ ae86

recent mods
HondaRue's fc caliper adapter and rotor kit
front and rear aero
205/50/15 nitto nto1
xxr 522 15x8 -0- offset

round two of the nasa time trials @ motorsports ranch in cresson texas

im in the time trial B class or TTB, last years lap record was 1:30. held by a cayman s
on sunday my best time was a 1:28.710 i was bested by my best friend in his superbad boosted miata on slicks with a 1:27.648 (damn you)

i got limited track time due to carbon hood my flying up and smashing the windsheild followed by tire to fender contact....then a coolant plug failure caused me to spew water everywhere..and then an engine misfire that i tracked down to plugs and wires...so saturday was a wash......new parts by 6pm and the car was running good again by 10pm

sunday was much better and i finally got to concentrate on finding a good line.
second and last session before the 8hr drive home and me and my buddy in the miata were next to each other on grid.

in that one session all the broken glass, gas money, entry fees, smashed carbon hood and the the dreaded in route flatulence followed by the "window lock" all meant ****.....thank you god for motorsports

Niice, car does look pretty good out there. Not to nit pick but to offer advice, your leaving ALOT of time out on the track by not clipping the apex nor letting the car run out to the edge of the track.Your turn in is good for some corners but quite late on most limiting corner speed with the smaller radius.
You got good power so combine that with the willing chassis, getting the line right on the way in will allow you to unwind the wheel and add throttle right out to the edge of the track. No other changes and I see a minimum of 2 seconds dropped per lap.

Have fun,the car looks to be a blast. :)

New tracks are fun eh?,I'm an avid autox'er so I learn new tracks fairly quickly due to always essentially being at a new "track".I did motorcycle road race schools years ago,did a level 3(no instruction, timed laps for top 3 awards) on a track config I'd never seen before not knowing the other guys in the course had done the other 2 levels on back to back days with instruction.I set the fastest lap of the day and still wasn't picked for an award, bummed I asked the instructor what gives and he says my lap times varied a little too much-when I said of course they did as I spent the day learning the track. They hadn't realized I was a new guy so thought I was too inconsistant,I wonder how much faster I'd have been in another 2 days of practice?. :D

Moral of the story is don't let problems with the car or a new track cause you to lose focus, identify in the very 1st couple of laps the type of corner it is(constant, increasing or decreasing radius)and adjust your entry into each type(all 3 will most likely need a different entry line depending on camber and how close the next corner is to it).Get the entry right and the rest will follow, add speed once the line is right not the other way around.

I'm not picking on you at all btw, just offering tips for you and anyone that may read this and give them something to think about when on track.

Let us know how the next one goes, based on how close you were in time to your buddies miata(thats impressive for a corolla btw)I suspect you'll do quite well on a familiar track.
