i think my dad will buy me a grinder and a gas welder when i get back because he wants me to become more handy and learn more to help me out for the future so i could do it with a gas welder just need some exp first i already learned how to stick weld and got some welding goggles i have 2 ones that are really black and i cant see crap and the ones i like where i am able to see through them good and not hurt my eyes welding at the same time. im going to cut out all the rust and weld in new metal and spot weld before i sand and primer down the whole car but i also want to do the engine bay the prob is how do i take out the motor cant i disassemble the head and then take the block out by hand? it will be a good learning exp for me putting back together.
You dont necessarily need a MIG welder "gas welder"
Although it is better for most jobs.
But if your just doing little stuff on your car, I would recommend a lincoln procore 100. And oddly enough, there's one on ebay. This is capable of atleast 1/2" and then some. Even though its small, it pack a big punch.
crazy long link
As for the grinder, you can pick up a new in box dewalt grinder for no more than 50$ at home depot.
another stupid long link

or we could mess around with our cars at my house and have a bbq in my quite neighboorhood since you swing by my area and you could teach me that would be a fun laid back day. makes me remember the last time u were over and did a donut in the culdesack with the 4runner lol and the time you drifted my car in the school parking lot i nearly shat myself and got worried sick because of the cops around the area. but yeah thanks blacktrueno i will definitly make sure to take that into account into the future.hvguy wrote:Swing by some time and ill learn you the trade of welding..... Actually, when I get moved in and all situated, im having a BBQ at my house and everyone is invited.
I can show you then.
PS. I have the auto-dark helmet and its the best thing since electricity.
If you go cheap and buy some junk, you get what you payed for. But if you buy something thats in the 200$ range, itll be with you till you die.

I just got done welding up a battery box, cover, and winch mount for my trailer and ive been up since 3pm yesterday and my eyes are ok.BlackTruenoAE86 wrote:I spent like 180 on it, we were welding for like 6 hours non stop... my eyes were hurting when i went to bed. but using it here and there its great, well I dont even mess with that stuff anymore my friend has all that now.
Like I said earlier, buy a good helmet like mine from lincoln, but be sure to check the shutter speed.
I have a cheaper one with an adjustable lens that you can make brighter for like TIG welding and such. But it was cheap-thus its slow. But I just blink before I start, though sometimes I dont even bother.
Here soon we will have CCD eye implants. I cant wait. 30X ZOOM FTW!

i have another set of welding goggles with dark lenses that i can flip up so that works just as good it just doesent have the face sheild part which i find kinda useless unless i would be welding abouve me if that does happen i can wear a beanie with holes poked in the eyes and mouth with the dot helmet i got for free that goes to a motor bike with the pointey mouth piece andthen the goggles but it makes me look like a little kid with a huge head i have footage of me in the car from the drift event that i re did the video i will be posting it right now in my thread so you see what i am talking about. but if you do have a bbq either 2 people are going cooking rick or my father my dad was a chef at over 20 resturaunts before he went to school and became a sycologyst either way the both of them make some freaking good bbq.
