Panhard body mount is toast. Any suggestions?
Panhard body mount is toast. Any suggestions?
So I was about to install my adjustable panhard but just like almost everything on this car, there is always an extra problem hidden somewhere. I swore it was my panhard rod that was bent but upon further inspection my body mount is almost completely broken and it was no wonder the rear was feeling so sloppy. (lol) Here is a pic of the carnage:

Anybody have any tips on how to fix? What I was thinking was to weld on some strips of thick steel to the existing mounts both on the back and front. One of the strips will have a drilled hole so that it sits right where the normal bolt is supposed to go. It is crudely represented in this picture. Any input?

The junkyards here in Austin are out 86's so can go cut one mount off :/

i cut one off a parts car years ago. huge pita, tons of spot welds in hard to reach places
Re: Panhard body mount is toast. Any suggestions?
Agreed. On top of that, welding next to the gas tank makes me nervous.
Re: Panhard body mount is toast. Any suggestions?
patch the one you have. drop the tank if need be. your idea for patching isn't bad. I would reinforce the flat side nearest the passenger side tire as well. Never hurts to add strength. I'm planning on a Watt's link setup on my v8 car. I think when i do it I'm gonna really beef up the body mount for the panhard.

Dropping the tank is easy compared to drilling the bracket out. I think you know what to do, and have a good plan to boot

Agreed. I would try this. I too replaced mine with one from my parts car. I was a lot of work. I also like the idea of the bracing. Lay a horizontal bead to put back in place then add the vertical bracing round it.McKenney wrote:patch the one you have.

I'd cut it off most the way and just fab up a whole new mount. Pretty common for rally car's to reinforce this part since they break everything.
