I have an 87 gts that had a small oil leak bt in the worst spot the rear main seal and it was leaking on the clutch itself. 13 days ago me and some friends replaced the rear main seal and put everything back together. After a couple days of driving the leak was worse same spot. So last night We pulled the transmission back off. i will be replacing the rear main seal again but my big question is about the thrust palte on the back. it looks as if maybe the oil is leaking out from around it. I see its mated to the block and oil pan....can you repalce that gasket and reseal just the portion around the pan? I need to get it doen tonight when I get off work so I can leave for 8/6 tomorrow afternoon.

Please help!!

sorry been out of town.

the rear main seal unbolts from the block. pull it then pull the seal out with a seal removal tool being sure not to score the seal mating surfice. if its scored it will leak.

Yes you can, if you've already got a new seal & no damaged surface. There IS a metal gasket that goes behind the rear main cover, and FIPG for the oil pan mating surface. Scrape/clean up the surfaces after removal and reinstall with fresh gasket/fipg.

No FIPG around metal gasket. But get a new one.

sorry didnt read your hole post. assasin is correct.

my gasket was paper by the way. you could use silicone but i would let it sit overnight with no oil in the motor before you fire it up.
