a couple of electrical questions....

Post by ColorollaAE86 »

My stop fuse keeps blowing for some odd reason. How do I check the brake light switch? Also, how do I wire up an electric cooling fan on my GTS to get rid of my flex blade fan?

The brake light switch is a momentary switch. The way it works is it's constantly depressed (so the bridge to ground is interrupted) until you used the brakes (then the bridge to ground is completed). It's a simple 2 wire connection.

Check for shorts in any of the wiring (don't forget either side of the fuse)

Make sure the proper fuse size is being used.

Make sure the proper bulb wattage is being used as well.

here is a wiring diagram for the electric fan to work automatically. it uses a thermostat cover from an ae82 or an ae92. both bolt up to the ae86 and have a fan switch built in.

sort of off topic... but not really. Goosh do you know the part number for that switch?! I'm pretty sure the ae92 thermostat is the 48mm as well that's same as the GTS thermostats.

yes the thermostat itself is the same. the difference is the rubber gromet gasket that is included with the ae92 thermostat. im not sure what the pn is for the thrmo switch.

for the switch itself i dont think toyota has a part number for it. I just called my local toyo dealer and the parts guy couldnt find a part number either. he did say the fan switch could be included with the thermostat housing.

if this is the case the ae92 thermo housing pn = 16321-16030
ae82 thermo housing pn = 16321-15010

ha! that would make sense why I can't find that switch! Thanks for the part number sir!

To the O.P. the diagram goosh posted up about the electric fans works. Also check here for part numbers and relays that are easily obtained at your local parts store. Take a look at the link below for that information. It's on the 3rd post. cost you about 10 dollars or so for the relays. pickup some connectors and wire and you should be good to go.
