I would say Cressida, but you already poo-pooed that earlier.
Is it a FWD to RWD conversion?

Re: project: apparatus fo-do.
Let's talk about front subframes.
the planned engine for this project will either be a 3sge beams engine, or a good ole 4agze. we all know those are front sump iron block engines. if i get power hungry in the future a 1uz is also front sump, so, i have to look for a front sump style front subframe.
now the ae86 subframe comes to mind more than anything. especially it being a front sump designated subframe.
but then again, a miata front subframe comes to mind, because of the double wishbone set up. but is designed for a rear sump engine....fail. i know i can probably swing a rear sump or dry sump 4ag conversion, and i know theyre made for the 1uz (rear sump).
tonight ill post up deminsions and finding for the front subframe.

Re: project: apparatus fo-do.
its a fwd car originally, heres the diminsions.
front track 1470mm
rear track 1460mm
whellbase 97"
oem curb weight is 2161 lbs. or 980 kgs. which ever you prefer.
its wheel base is only 3" longer than an ae86,
it has a 2" wider track than an ae86'
is 100 lbs. less than oem ae86 in curb weight, and is 4 door.
ill go ahead and tell you its an ae100 corolla 93-97. ill go ahead and strap the flame suit on too, because i know its coming....

I had a feeling you were looking at a FWD roller, but I was thinking that it would be the Nissan Sentra. The AE100 is an interesting choice.

Re: project: apparatus fo-do.
told you it was toyota bodied and toyota power.....not selling out to "x" brand, lol.
im just saying, why did they have to take the corolla to fwd, other than cheapness of manufacturing? i plan on showing whoever is willing to look, that even the ae100 would have been a contending platform if it were designated rwd.
i look at it like this, even in the mid 90's toyota themselves put a 3sge engine in the ae100 sedan overseas, and called it the "trd 2000". it had trd 15" wheels, trd short shifter, lsd, trd suspension bracing, larger breaks from the 2 door levin counter part, and disc on all 4's, and trd/bilstein suspension.
http://www.7tune.com/trd-2000/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

so apparently someone at toyota seen the potential in these cars as well, but somewhere it was lost. the corolla has been on a hiatis since the release of the 93 model. at least even the ae92 had a 2 door gts model. since 93, in the states there was nothing oem performance offered until the XRS of 2003, which only boasted a 2zzge and 6 speed of a celica, but by then the corolla weighed 2700 lbs. of course over seas got the fxgt, which was a 2 door hatch that was 20v powered......i think the ae100 was the last stop for a candidate honestly. what really hurts is that toyota de bagged theyre own colt like following sports car, when they re-introduced it, then gave it to scion to market. kinda like the LFA going to lexus, instead of being released as a supra. in a cultural aspect, i dont know who is running toyota now, but theyre not even focused on upholding the performance market and following their heritage.

Re: project: apparatus fo-do.
Akio Toyoda is the current CEO of Toyota Motor Corp. If you look at his track record, and what he does, then you'll see that he most definitely is "sports oriented". Not only does he run Toyota, but he races LFAs at the Nurb, he test drives the NASCAR Toyota Camry on an oval, he test drives a rally spec FRS, among many other types of "sports oriented" activities. It's too bad that most all decisions are voted by more than 1 person though.5hu83r7 wrote:what really hurts is that toyota de bagged theyre own colt like following sports car, when they re-introduced it, then gave it to scion to market. kinda like the LFA going to lexus, instead of being released as a supra. in a cultural aspect, i dont know who is running toyota now, but theyre not even focused on upholding the performance market and following their heritage.
Re: project: apparatus fo-do.
agree'd but damn, when is toyota as a name plate gonna offer up anything remotely sporty again? for example the fx16.....why dont we have a caldina here to compete with the wrx's? where as i understand that scion was supposed to be the "new sportier generation" of toyota, its all crap, besides the fr-s, but then.....why let subaru take your platform, and beat you with it?
celica gtfour?
a 2 door hatch back other than a yaris?
the 10th gen corollas......dont even get me started.
but thats neither here nor there. im just out to build something different. everyone slides s chassis and the ae86 bandwagon in ATL has grown to epic proportions with every honda fanboy selling out to the ae86, and frankly its getting rediculous. go to atlanta craigslist, and type in ae86....all you find is civic trade wanted adds. its truly sad.
ive been itching to build another ae100, just because, and im also itching to slide again, so this just seems like it'd be right up my alley.
also not to mention ive searched the net over and have yet to find a rwd ae100. ive found rr crx's and integras. mr preludes, and fr civics....nothing ae100 yet. the sad part is, the ae100 is lighter than the civic........and integra.
imagine, a nice appearing, well sitting, good sounding ae100........suddenly breaks sideways, rear tires smoking........
exactly.
