After they were bought, I found out they were Halsbeck replicas. Haslbeck was a bodykit available @ the toyota dealers in germany in the eighties
Front looks horrible though

Since I'm still building on the 16V, here are some shots taken some weeks ago.

After killing 2 AE111 20V bottom ends in my AE86, and after pulling the engine out of the car 4 times in only 2000km I decided to stop the 20V experience and go back to the roots. Since I have never built and run any 4AGE 16V I won’t say that they are more reliable,… but at least they are easy to find and way cheaper than the 20V’s
Till now I sold almost all my 20V goodies and got my self a nice 16V bluetop, large port, TVIS, EGR, catalytic… lump.
In europe these engines had 116hp from factory. When I got this engine running a dyno will tell the truth. But it should be some difference to my last 189hp 20V :(

I just can’t mount an engine without fiddling and messing around with it. So it started by disassembling it.

Right now the engine is painted, has nearly every gasket changed, changed the rod bolts, matched the weight of the conrods and pistons, changed the rod bearings, metal head gasket, got some mild cams,…

Right now the engine is waiting to get back in the car so that I can start building a custom wiring loom to connect it to my Haltech standalone.

Engine is in, idling and running with a small mod of my 20V map. Next step is gonna be the dyno to get the mapping right and experiment a bit on cam settings. Cam manufacturer says to set the at stock timing though.

I'm still struggling to get it running right.
Idles great, but I have some weird timing issue.
@idle the ignition is exactly at 18°BTDC just like it's set in the Haltech ECU
But when I rev it, strobe shows me that the ignition pulse goes to 10° BTDC! According to the ignition map it should move in the other direction, like over 30° BTDC.
And I have no clue why the engine does this!

have you always been running haltech? and if so, did you change anything by chance?

Haltech is the same as it was on my 20V setup.
Even tried to change the Haltech itself with another Haltech from a buddy's car.
Nothing changed.

Finally I found out that it was my distributor that was faulty! Changed it against another one, everything seems to work for now.

BTW, my engine history in this 86 was quite long:
1. OEM bluetop 16V
2. OEM blacktop 20V (killed)
2. killed #2
4. OEM blacktop 20V the second one
5. modified #4 with cams, haltech,headwork,...
6. killed #5
7. bluetop 16V with cams, haltech, ITB's

let's see how long this will last

Yup, that's my 3rd engine in just 1200miles or so, so let's hope this one lasts a bit longer. If this engine breaks I'm gonna lock the 86 in the garage and won't touch it for some years!
Car is back on the streets :-) Dyno and mapping on Thursday.

It reminds me of the orange car T3 helped build years ago that kept getting wrecked at events.
