hmm, the bernoulli/venturi effect makes a lot of sense... the car doesn't seem to want to "break loose" (if you will) at the lower RPMs anymore. Makes it a bit less fun

the knock was a one day thing... haha, one day it was knocking. (or so i thought) then a few weeks of not driving and then the knock went away. I could've totally tricked myself into thinking that there was a knock when there never was....

So what are the pros/cons from switching from the big port intake to the small port intake that you see?

Sadly, I saw more cons than pro's when i switched to a smallport intake. I was hoping for more torque/power, but that didn't really happen. Maybe I have a vacuum leak and don't know?JDMwhiteboy wrote:So what are the pros/cons from switching from the big port intake to the small port intake that you see?
I liked how peppy the bigport intake + t3 adaptor was. It seemed to have more power and torque than it does now with the smallport intake. I'm considering switching it back...
Like Jonas said, it might be the bernoulli/venturi effect that took place when i had the bigport manifold with the t3 adaptor. My understanding of that is, it might have created a stronger flow of air into the head.
I would say, that it's also cheaper just to buy the T3 adaptor plate and throw it onto the bigport than to buy a RWD converted smallport head.
Going from your 4AC to a hicomp will be worlds of wonders

Re: AznTKDmstr (a.k.a. Thaison) Sweet GTS...
So, I was driving on I-35 two or three weekends ago and al of a sudden i feel like the rear of my car slammed on it's brakes.... freaked me out.
So I pulled over and randomly it was right outside of the Toyota dealer and I hear some metal squealing or grinding from my rear end. But it seemed only to come during acceleration. Decelleration, it didn't squeal as much...if i recall correctly. So I look under my car and I see a bunch of fluid everywhere and some smoke. Looks like my rear end was leaking oil. I thought something had exploded i the rear or something. It sounded sooooo nasty to me. Like metal to metal grinding.
I drove it home, thinking it was the bearings or something that got fried because of a lack of gear oil.
So earlier tonight, I drop my rear end and pull my pumpkin out. I don't see any metal shavings or pieces AT ALL. Just a very very very low oil level in the rear end. :/ I put an axle into the LSD and spin it. No sounds, no metal noises. (maybe I was spinning it backwards?) I tried the other side, same thing.
So my question is...was the nasty metal sounds just because of a dry rear end??

no shaving or metal that looked like gear teeth?
where was the rear end leaking: pinion seal, around the third member housing or drain plug, etc...?

Re: AznTKDmstr (a.k.a. Thaison) Sweet GTS...
sounds like diff carrier or pinion bearings. also you may not see wear but it may be there. check your back lash and gear pattern. also check the brake assembly.

Re: AznTKDmstr (a.k.a. Thaison) Sweet GTS...
I, stupidly, put it back together and filled it up with gear oil. Hoping that it somehow fixed itself. Man was I totally wrong...too optomistic i guess. I mean, i put an axle into the LSD when I took it out of the diff housing and spun it. it spun freely and I didn't hear any noises at all. So i told myself everything was ok. But NOPE!
Prolly was the pinion bearing. Now that I think about it, there was some pinion play. I could move it a good 1/2 cm in and out of the pumpkin, without unbolting it. Prolly some busted up stuff in there I opened it up, but didn't get past the oil seal....
On a good note, I figured I'd upgrade the LSD anyways. So I put a deposit on a kaaz 2 way with 8,000 miles. just need my next paycheck so i can pay for the rest of it.

you'll need a new crush sleeve (weir performance) and make sure you set up your backlash and preload properly. VERY important on any diff type.
pinion should not have any play and things are different when under load.

Hopefully you find a reliable shop that can perform the diff setup Thaison.
