poop brown TE21 aka "the peanut"

I drove up to Oklahoma City yesterday to check out a 74 corolla sedan. It wasn't running
But used to be an old lady's daily driver. After three hours of messing with the fuel and everything, we got it started! New fuel filter and a shot of compressed air through the fuel pump and it started right up!
Bought the car from a guy named Cam. Used to collect corollas - tons of TE27's and this one TE21. Sadly he's sold all the other TE's and the TE21 was the last one he had.
Changed the oil and the spark plugs and hit the road! Made it to Dallas, which is where I am now. I'll be driving this baby back to Austin soon! It had some issues starting up today because I parked it overnight... But after 30 minutes of jump starting, I let it run and charge the battery back up.
Oh, here is a picture. More to come soon!

I'm going to keep the auto for now. I want to make this baby my daily driver. Maybe I'll eventually do a 5spd conversion. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

The dash is the cleanest part on the car... interior isn't too bad. A few rips here and there and an old-car smell. Paint's all oxidized, but i like it that way :D and a few rust spots here and there. I'm back in Austin now. I need to replace the battery, sparkplug wires, alternator (i think it's the original one...), switch to LED's, and some other things here and there.
I'm in love!

So, I started doing a little work on the car.
And by that I mean, I painted the grill black:
Then swapped out the konig rewind wheels from my ae86 onto the te21:
I definitely need a drop...so I ordered from cheaaappo Ebay coilover perches and springs, etc from a 95+ corolla. Got the tip from drocca.
But then I realized that my rear wheels were "wobbling" which made me think my wheel was bent from sliding into a curb super hard... but I realized that on the rear drums, there was a screw sitting there that wass keeping the wheel from sitting flush on the hub.
ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE FOR? I haven't gotten a repair manual yet, so I dunno. And I forgot to take a picture. I'll do that tomorrow.
And since 7 inch wide wheels were a little much and the suspension was soooo soft. The fender was eating the tires. It actually sliced it pretty nice and there's a chuunk of flapping rubber. SO I thought....time to bend in those fenders!
Hammered at them for 10 minutes. And then i realize it'd be smarter to cut slits and then bang those in. Soooo smart!
So, I hammered them in and painted with rubberized undercoating....
AND BEFORE THAT! I worked on makiing a roof rack, so I can carry my bike to school and bike around campus. I bought some "Quick-N-Easy Rain Gutter Roof Mounts". Pretty cool because you can either mount a metal pipe onto it or a metalunistrut or.......a 2X4!
Here's the clearance on the rear piece..."
And it is SOLID! I'm gonna construct a basket that I can use in case I need to carry more luggage... And I'm waiting on some fork mounts for my bike that I can screw on. And need to find the right metal "U" shaped piece for my bike to sit down in...
Still need to:
- Replace belts
- Mount front chin spoiler
- Clean the interior
- Clean the engine bay
- Empty and clean out the gas tank (it turned off on me a few times when I was driving...i think there's a lot of gunk from sitting around outside for a year)
- Get rear lowering blocks
- Get camber plates (i can't find a good source yet for TE2x's. I know Cusco ones go for like $200-300 a pair... Not sure of the ae86 ones will fit....i'll experiment one day, unless somebody knows they don't fit)
- Buy some diamond racing wheels with negative offset :D
