My 1992 Nissan 240SX Maintenance Build

Since my primary build is my AE86, I've been resigned to upgrade the S13 as things are needed. Instead of doing stock replacements I'll pick up aftermarket pieces to install as I do maintenance on worn components.

1992 240SX SE:

132,XXX miles on it. The owners said it hesitated and was making a bad rattling noise from the front of the engine. I test drove it and verified it. The hesitation was due to a bad alternator and cheap plug wires. At mid to high RPMs the battery couldn't sustain the charge system and would drop power and there was no juice for spark. So a new alternator and battery later and she runs perfect. The plug wires themselves just didn't fit. The base of the boot was too large. It would compress when installed and during driving it would expand to it's normal length, disconnecting the plug wire from the spark plug in the process.
The rattle was also easily fixed. The top chain guide had broke and was bouncing on top of the chain. I removed that and the driver-side upper guide and she has a really quiet engine now.



So this weekend I swapped out the stock tension rods with a set from SPL. While I was under there I noticed the rack boots were torn and the tie rods were all tired and sloppy so I ended up getting some replacements from Autozone. Got everything installed, set the alignment and everything feels much better now. I didn't get too many pics of the tie rod swap. It was too damn hot and I wasn't in the mood to be taking pictures by the time I got to it.

Thanks. The Peak Performance trans mount should be hear Thursday. I'm just hoping the engine mounts make it by this weekend so I can get them installed. The vibration is becoming horrible.

I never had a engine mount go out onme so I really cant say anything but since I am building the rotory corolla i can tell you that the mounts that I have are just a stright bar and no rubber. So I will feel lots of vibration.

Got around to swapping out my engine and transmission mounts this Sunday. A slight bit more vibration, but the car feels much more stable. The old mounts were tired and the engine was leaning when I took corners. It would cause the car to rock side to side.
