here's what i've been running for the pass 5 years: the good ol' adjustable panhard w/ spherical rod ends-
just this past friday
erickz300 came over and helped me install my modified watts-link i had sitting around for several months.
the purpose behind the design is to help keep the rear end more properly centered while allowing the live rear axle to pivot more "naturally". they've been around for years. this particular unit is intended for a model A or T hot rod.
i just modified the rods by shortening them to fit my narrower application. i did so by cutting off material from the RH thread side of each rod since it's easier for me to re-thread being that right-hand taps are more commonly had to the general public. added a bearing for the center pivot point so as to minimize wear on the bolt.
i had to slightly widen the lower mounting point to accommodate a .5" #8 bolt where the panhard bolted to the carriage. picked up a .5" steel spacer and cut it to length to take up the spaces on either side of the rod end at that spot too.
welded the upper mount to the under carriage right where the factory exhaust hangar normally sits. ran out of the good flux core wire thanks to a certain SOMEONE W/ A HEAVY TRIGGER FINGER
. (bought some lincoln flux-core wire and it really sux! you'd think i'd have learned my lesson the first time w/ their wire. never again!)
driving around on it currently. i'll have to put it through some tasks in the coming weeks for a more "thorough" opinion.
