hatch cable

not sure if i need one just yet but since i got my car the hatch lever never worked and i was trying to see what the problem is, the other day i had someone pull the lever up and down as i had the hatch open to see what it could be but i didn't see anything moving at all so im not sure if the cable is snagged on something OR if i just need a new cable

anyone know if it runs under the carpet??

yes it dose along the frame all the way to the back
