help in austin,tx PLEASE!!!!
I'm trying to get ready for the nst event. I just need to swap out my diff and get my timing done. That's not a lot. Really I need help with the timing and a slide hammer. I'm asking for help from people around me because I don't have the money to buy and or pay someone. If anyone can help me out that would be great. I have this sat off and can work pretty much whenever.
Thanks,
Daniel
Thanks,
Daniel

you can rent a slide hammer and attachments from autozone and oreilleys. just charge it to a credit card, and when you return the tools, they'll put the money back onto your card.
i think you might even be able to get a timing gun there too.

Warm up engine till at operating temp (when it idles down)
Jump diagnostic ports
Connect timing gun to spark plug wire closest to the radiator
Pull trigger, point it at the crank, and see where the notch lines up.
Off the top of my head, i think its supposed to be at 15 degrees.
If its nowhere near it, loosen the bolts (dont take them off!) to the dizzy, and twist it left or right until the notch on the crank pulley lines up to 15, and then tighten the dizzy back down.

If its too far out, you can TRY to take the dizzy out and move it one tooth in the direction you need to go.
also....not sure if your timing gun has an adjustment knob, but if it does, make sure its at 0

Yes... but (and don't take this the wrong way) right now you are having trouble getting your timing set... a fairly simple task. Have you even thought about how difficult it is going to be for you to align the ring and pinion? Not trying to rain on your parade... just trying to say I'd like to see you at the meet.putting the welded on in for the event. the one i have now is open.

set your motor to top dead center. make sure the marks on the cam gears are lined up correctly. make sure the the mark on the crankshaft gear is lined up correctly. make sure the dimples on the dizzy are lined up...and stab it in straight up. timing will be at 10 degrees...which is factory setting. easy as pie.
