wire up toyota coils the same way.

as if you are looking at a 1zz or 1nz ignition coil with plug facing you.

12v igf(don't use) igt(firing signal) ground

i used a small plug wire off a 92 4runner connectted it to my ignition coil and grounded the other end by threading an m6x1.0 stud into the firewall and connecting the spark plug wire to it.

what year avalon? the 1mzfe motors appear to have come with 2 different types of coils: 2 wire and 3or4 wire. the wire versions also came in a waste spark configuration. the 2 wire coils wouldn't appear to work. the 3 or 4 wire ones would but then you'd have to then just check their lengths and adjust for that. 2000 avalons appear to have the 3/4 wire coils.

Ditched the Avalon plan, I just grabbed some 1NZ coilpack from the scrapper for free99. Anyone know what 2 of the tops are grey and the other 2 are black???

i haven't used them myself but others who do haven't mentioned fitment. i know first hand that the 1/2zz/nz fit very snuggly w/o the need for bolting them down.

Had some Civic COP's on my 20V. They fit pretty well. Perfect would be if they were 10mm shorter! Built a bracket to hold them down, never had any problems with them.
Still need to find the connectors or some pigtail from a scrappy, but unfortunately they aren't very common in Europe :-(

^ thanks .. were you able to put the spark plug valley cover on with that gap.. i've got a set of 92-95 wires but they sit high, too high for my taste... i'll give the civic COP's a shot though unless i find some toyota ones

No, couldn't fit the top cover, but you can alway make a cusom top plate with some cutouts for the COP's

have you tried a silvertop valley cover? it should give more clearance to neatly hide the cops.

on another note, to adjust timing you can use one of your scrap 20v wires or an early 90's 4runner spark plug wire and connect it to your #1 spark plug, other end to your ignition coil and connect your timing light to it.
