Can't you guys drive out of town (if it's close)
To a saftey inspection only place and get it done there instead of doing the whole 9 yards??
I think that's when registration comes into play... So like if your car is registered in one county, you have to get it inspected in that county? I think? I could be completely wrong, but that would be my guess...

That is right. Where the car is registered tells what inspection it gets

well the importance is put on Emission counties. Inspections done in emission counties will be a full inspection, it does not mater if the car is registered in a safety only county, all test done in an emission county will preform the emission test. A car that is registered in a emission county can not go to an safety only county and get their inspection done. Also a weird rule is that if you live in a safety only county, but you work in a emissions county as in you drive into it everyday for work. Then you have to have the emission test done, you can get the safety sticker then go to the emission county and get the emission decal to go on the safety sticker. Or you can just save like 1.50 I think if you just get the whole test done in a emission county. Most people I see get away with this rule but we had one lady come into our shop with the affidavit from the state saying she needed both test so they are starting to enforce this rule. All inspections are copied and sent to Austin electronically. The're are state troopers out there that will scan your sticker and see if it is a legit sticker. Ever since the Governors mansion burned down and DPS had no clue what happened the big wigs got on DPS so now DPS is hella stricter. so heads up.

Is it possible for police to run the license plate number and be able to tell if this car passed the inspection ?

I think its only DPS that can do that. But I do know cops can tell if you have insurance by your plates.

What county do you live in and what year is the truck? If you live in an emissions county then yes you need to get full inspection done. If this is the first time you are going to register the truck in Texas you will also get a VI-30 or green sheet (its not really green though) along with the copy of the inspection report.

Brazoria is a safety only county, thats why your truck got a safety sticker. To register you need the green sheet, the inspection report, insurace card, and title.
