Re: Coming soon: Warren's 86
warren, have you already tried just replacing your ignitor with one out of a good running 86 to see if it's the problem? i believe the ignitor is what converts the coil signal for the factory gts tach to read.
-if that doesn't fix it, try putting your old ignitor back in and then changing out your coil.
-if that don't fix it, try taking both ignitor & coil from again a known running gts.
-if that doesn't fix it, replace the distributor with one (again) from a known running gts.
also, before any of the other stuff above:
make sure your distributor rotor isn't screwy. about 3 years ago, i had one just shatter from a screw that came loose inside the cap.

love the rims it could be your dizzy it happen to my friend and it was the pick up in side the dizzy
Re: Coming soon: Warren's 86
Yeah no check engine lights... Jones that's kind of what me and a buddy brain stormed last night. I don't have an other gts to take parts off of so I think I'm going to throw new parts at it and return what doesn't fix till something gives...
Re: Coming soon: Warren's 86
Well I still had my old igniteor and coil. I'm sure they are still good because they were still working when I pulled them off the car. But I didn't have any luck so I guess I'm going to have get a distributor.. I'm going to see if a autozone has a remand I can pick up for cheap.
Re: Coming soon: Warren's 86
if your old coil and ignitor are good and its still acting up it would be the cam position and crank position sensors in the bottom of the dizzy or a wiring issue.
sensor gap has a specification and it should be maintained and sensor resistance should be within specification.
ohm the sensor circuit from the dizzy to the ignitor then back to the ecu and make sure circuit resistance is not too high and there's no opens in the circuit.
also if there's oil in the dizzy from the shaft seal failing then is will cause sporadic and constant misfires depending on the severity of the issue

Re: Coming soon: Warren's 86
alan brought up a good point about possibly having oil in your distributor. if it's the case, you can easily pick up a seal kit which is about $20.
Re: Coming soon: Warren's 86
thanks for the link on that by the way. mick ordered one but has yet to re-seal it.

New stuff. I picked some goods from Law's speed shop... I have a bench buffer so I shined them up a bit. I think I'm going to respray the mounting brackets.
Enjoy the cruddy cell pics.
