so you've done the swap before? i'm looking for i guess step by step pictures and stuff. the only reason i'm thinking about doing this is due to the fact that my friend has a 2nd gen mr2 with a 2ov silver top in it that is bad and he is going to be getting a new motor and i'm going to pick up this one and rebuild it. and then dop it in. i hope.

It's not done yet I have everything ready but do not have time to put it in everything been prepared.
Make sure you get this from your friend
Long block
ITB
all seneors
ECU wiring harness (I'm not sure if he gonna give you this) This is the most important thing with out ecu and wiring 20v is almost useless. Make sure he pass it to you or he give the wiring that come with the new motor.

Use this from your GTS
all engine accessories brackets and mounts
16v oil pressure sensor
16v water pump/ water line
16v ac compresser
16v alternator
16v powersteering pump
16v oil filter adapter (if you want to use oil cooler)
16v flywheel clutch pilot bearing
16v exhaust header (you need to grind a hole in order to fit in)

If you have all the parts list above you will be fine

with the right setup
...20v+16v head <20v>
...20v+16v head > 16v blue/red top
the 20v block is stronger and has higher rev limit + better crankshaft / rods

i don't personally agree with pecx on this one.

with the 16v head, there's better torque response and 1 less valve to open per cylinder however negligible it may seem. also, better aftermarket support for the 16v head than the 20v.

i'd would go with a complete 20v setup if they ever made progressively tuned cams for them. right now, no.

i would risk saying my 1620 would beat a stock 20v off the line.
