its a lot eaiser to wire a mega squirt it dosent require specific 20v only sensors and its a lot more straight foward unless your just a toyota wiring pro and know the harness's that wellpecx wrote:Well if you can wire the stand alone ECU, I'm pretty sure you can wire the stock st ecu in the 86. :D

i'm with will on running megasquirt. i prefer to have more control on the sensors and wire routing. i see it as being much easier to change or repair any sensors, wires, etc...when you're not dependent on proprietary items. you also have control over what the car needs to run. in other words, you can decide if it'll run with all the usual fuel and ignition delivery items but minus the o2 or temp, or angle sensor, or tps and just run map or vice versa, no knock sensor, etc...etc...
with the toyota ecu you're dependent on the original designer's intended requirements for the engine to run correctly. it's a little more difficult and/or expensive to diagnose it. it can be flashed but that doesn't come cheap either. and you're still dependent on proprietary sensors, etc...
BUT, megasquirt is not for those easily distracted or prone to quickly giving up on difficult tasks. it's work but worth doing because of the pay off.

so your telling me that all the sensors are done away with? I was planning on running my 20v with the itbs open but on bad weather days running it with the plenum.dr.occa wrote:i'm with will on running megasquirt. i prefer to have more control on the sensors and wire routing. i see it as being much easier to change or repair any sensors, wires, etc...when you're not dependent on proprietary items. you also have control over what the car needs to run. in other words, you can decide if it'll run with all the usual fuel and ignition delivery items but minus the o2 or temp, or angle sensor, or tps and just run map or vice versa, no knock sensor, etc...etc...

what he said.nt66 wrote:some of them are done away with and others can be replaced with generic gm type sensors which are very easy to get and affordable
sorry orlando, i'm with will on the f20/22 even though it's a honda engine. i wish toyota had a comparable engine that can be as easily "dropped in".
inspite of opinions that some toyota/86 enthusiasts may hold, honda makes great engines.
