What's up everyone?
What's up everyone?
Hello everyone,
I'm Frank from the SW side of Houston, Texas. I recently acquired an '86 SR-5. I know if I would of searched harder I could of gotten a GT-S but eh... I'm happy with it. Theres actually a long story behind it and how I got it, but lets say I traded a car for $100.
Anywho, it still has the 4A-C and is auto, so that's gotta go.. My plans are to bring it back to life with a new powertrain and supporting mods. If I can pick up / find a RHD conversion for a decent price and somewhat shortly, I'll convert. Otherwise I'll have to keep the LHD setup... Still debating which engine to go with. Need to do some more homework to figure out what suits me best. I know for sure I'm sticking in the 4A family but not too sure which route to take which I'm sure everyone before me seemed to be in the same disposition as I am in.
Before anyone asks, LOL, I don't any photos of the car. I picked it up and took it straight to my storage because I didn't (and still don't) have space at the shop. Besides, it's ugly, but the body is straight which is what I was most concerned with.
Well, that's my story and I'll take pictures sometime and keep you guys updated as I go.

Re: What's up everyone?
Just do what everyone else does and do the 4age swap -_-
Only on the internet could a man spend a lot of time and effort doing a high quality job only to have everyone rip him a new hole for not having the same exact taste as everyone else.

Re: What's up everyone?
Well I'm a boost guy so it's most definantely going to be boosted; twin charged if I can find the parts. I was looking around the forum to see if there were threads stating the differences between the GE and GZE blocks. Just from acquired knowledge, I would say it's safe to assume the GZE would have stronger rods (wristpins inclusive), forged pistons, forged crank (if different), addition of oil squirters, HV oil pump, maybe larger volume oil feed galleys, maybe different oil pressure regulators (pump or head, if so equipped). In some cases of different engines, the turbo / SC variant block would be better built to resist torsional stress' (block webbing and/or the addition of more main studs/bolts). better cooling efficiency (larger coolant ports) and of course oil squirters (i.e. "piston coolers").DjSpecter wrote:Just do what everyone else does and do the 4age swap -_-
I'll keep this out of the intro section and make a new thread.

Excellent! I will be calling you after lunch. What else would you possibly have? ECU? Harness? I also presume your block is the GE 7-rib not the GZE? We most definantely need to talk... Especially if you have a lot of useful parts.JDM AE86 wrote:welcome

Thanks again guys for the warm welcomes. I see why people like this site. Good people supporting a good forum.
So, I met up with JDM AE86 last night and picked up the 7 rib, T50, and a big port head. Laid back guy and very helpful. Thanks again. Now I need a few more parts to get going.
Haven't driven the car and I'm already excited about it.
