what black top internal parts can i use?
what black top internal parts can i use?
what main, rod and thrust bearings can be used in the black top? also, are any piston rings interchangeable?
Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
as long as they share the same bore size.
there are only two different rod bearings for all 4a motors. 40 and 42mm
main bearings should all be the same.

Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
all 7 ribs came with 42mm rod journals. so that means all 20v's will have 42mm rod journals. thrust bearings are shared between all of the 4a and 7a motors.
IIRC the only differences in rings should be between the low-comp and hi-comp motors. the hi-comp motors even share rings w/ 3rd gen preludes i believe.

Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
I should have the toyota part numbers for the rings. I have them for the mains and rods also but u need to look at your block and crank and figure out what number u need for the thickness for clearances lmk if u need them
Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
thanks guys. seems like everything is sorted out except for the piston rings. are silver top and black top rings the same?
Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
yes they are, but I assume your going to use new right?
also be carefull when swapping pistons

Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
i will be using new and also keeping stock pistons. also posted this on c4ag and got different answers.

Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
i'm uncertain as to what dan (aka oldeskewltoy) means by the rod bearings being unique to the BT and ST. ACL application charts show the same part number for their race series bearings for both the 16v and 20v 42mm rod journals along with the appropriate standard, 10(.25mm) or 20(.50mm) over sizes.
Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
I have posted on there and find out,
Occa: 42 or 44mm?

Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
thank you Sam-Q for your help and with posting on c4ag to find a true answer. I am honestly very confused my all this.
Jonas and Alan, thank you for your continuous help. you guys are the first i think about when dealing with an ae86 and 4ag problem.
help is much appreciated and this is one of the many reasons i believe 86garage will always be strong.

Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
both rings and rod bearings are different. i will post up measurements and other findings.
Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
im highly interested.the only difference to the 20v i bet is the oil thower on the bearing. i bet the rod has the same inside diameter and overall width. if im right you still should be able to use the 16v bearings. as to the piston rings im also interested in the measurements.

Re: what black top internal parts can i use?
did some reasearch and the rings have different widths and the rod oil squirters have different locations so i would say your stuck with 20v stuff.
