RWD AE92
RWD AE92
Toyota put my drivetrain in wrong. Now that I've got another daily driver, its time to tear apart the ae92, but I'm debating which rear end to use. I hear you 86 guys upgrade to the 240 rear end (not sure if they use s13 or s14), but I have a feeling using the 86 rear end would be a bit easier. Do any of you guys know much about upgrading to the 240 rear end? I already have access to an s13 rear end for cheap.

i'd look into the ae95 al-trac rear ends out of the wagons
i've always wanted to do it or see someone try it

Re: RWD AE92
i don't know of too many ae86s using s13 subframes. but would the all-trac rear hold up to the carnage? someone correct me if i'm wrong, but you'd have to beef up the rear shafts and possibly the ring gear, etc. since the most torque percentage you could get to the rear would be 50% with what's affordable and available to most tuners. the all-trac rears just weren't designed to handle ALL of the drive train responsibilities. but again, someone correct me if i'm wrong. i have very little experience with all-trac.
Re: RWD AE92
the altrac have the exact same rear end as an ae86 sr5. i saw it for my own eyes at lkq. so lets just put the gts rear end in...

Re: RWD AE92
no worries. i was thinking the irs rear because it may fit in the ae92 due to the years being closer in manufacturing. really just a guess.mooreofit wrote:my bad jonas, i really dont like irs. mostly cus i dont like c.v. shafts. im looking for easy to install.

the 4wheel wagon using the sr5 rear is a good bit of info.

Re: RWD AE92
My friend has an S13 rear-end lying around, with disc brakes. Its a 4x113 bolt pattern, but my rims are universal. I'm hoping to have time to actually look at what he's got and I guess take it from there. If I have any news I'll post it...

Do you think it would be strong enough to handle 300hp or so? I'll most likely turn the 7afe sideways at first, but we've been debating various v8s to swap in.

Re: RWD AE92
just get the 240 diff from your buddy already. and you know what v8 to run you have one already. they both will fit with the least amount of work.
