4AGE Crank & Bottom end Components

Post by dr.occa »

This is a 42mm crank that came out of a largeport TVIS 4AG and did sport the 9.4:1 pistons. Block is a 7-rib.

Image
Tapped and cleaned the oil passages in the crank.

Plugged up.

Image
Each one of the pistons and rods along with pins were all within .4-.5 grams of each other fresh out of the box. That's solid manufacturing for you.

During a test fit, it was discovered that the H Beam rods were catching the bottom of the cylinder walls so material had to be removed on all 4 and on both the intake and exhaust side. After a second test fit, there was still some galling.

Above are pictures of the final product with well over .005" clearance for the rods.

Smooth rotation depicted in the following video and images.

If you look closely you may notice how the assembly freely spins when 2 & 3 are just past BDC. This is during the second test fitting for rod clearance so the rings are not yet installed.

the previous machine shop that was suppose to dunk the block a while back did that. i've been building this block since then at an actual engine performance machine shop.

Hey Alan!

Yeah, these rods we obtained from Godspeed Project. I informed them of the issue.

i bet its cuz of the 42mil crank.those are identical to the belfabs so im sure they have the same issue too with the 42mm stuff and require fitment. if those godspeeds would have been out at the time of my build i would have got them instead.

I agree, it's definitely due to the 42mm crank difference being the primary cause. I'm hoping to get a hold of a 7A bottom end to do the same work to and raise the rpm range safely to 8k-9k.

Sorry Sam. I hadn't seen your post 'til now.

Pistons are Carillo and rods are from Godspeed.

This is a customer build. I'd have to go over the receipts for the prices but I'm sure you could Google for the information much quicker than waiting for me (as obvious by my 3 week LATE response).
