If you pull the c clip off where it holds the shifter in you don't have to break the seal. Just pop the clip and yank the shifter shaft out...

Re: what is the best tranny and lsd diff fluid
also i think 86garage should have a beware thread about GLl5 fluid . I went to auto zone and they told me they where positive gl5 75w-90 was superior to gl4 and was the right fluid for my car. 87 GTS > And i drove for less than 3000 miles before i found out there dumbbutt faces and wrong ! and its not good for older cars and they even typed in my car in there computer ! !
i am just lucky i was still in progress of building my car and did not put many miles because i could have ruin my damn trans for sure i have a 20v power plant so i am pushing the t50 and need the correct oils for sure

I ran gl5 in mine forever and never had an issue. I swapped to Synchromesh after discussing with Jonas. 200k transmission and shifts smooth and quietly.

Re: what is the best tranny and lsd diff fluid
i spoke with a specials that work's on performance classics and foreign car's. he told me straight up gl5 does not have the zinc and other essential ingredients for support of the t-50 trans and most classics
so i would have to say your very lucky also

I ran Royal Purple... it still has zinc in all their fluids.

Re: what is the best tranny and lsd diff fluid
ok mckenney i was not talking about fancy gear oil i was talking about conventional because i looked up specs on your oil and heres the what it says
Max-Gear is an ultra-tough automotive gear oil. It's designed to maximize power and provide unsurpassed protection to heavily loaded gears. It helps make gears run smoother, quieter, cooler and longer without overhauls. Max-Gear is recommended for use in truck, motor home/RV, and automotive front or rear differentials, manual transmissions, and lower gear units of marine engines that specify use of an API GL-5 or GL-4 fluid. < < if you see at the end there it says gl5 OR gl4 !
bottle they sold me at auto zone did not say can be used in gl4 trans and they said gl5 is the same thing less inout from mckenney more on people who have used redline mt90 because thats what i am using

Re: what is the best tranny and lsd diff fluid
Ok, up until about 3 years ago, all oils had zinc in them... And gl5 is the replacement for gl4 based ona that. Just like dexron 3 replaced dexron 2. I was stating fact, anf pointing out the reason they say gl5 is right for our cars. Don't be an ass... I've heard good things about Redline products but personally have never run them.
