Not much going on right now. Just trying to research and start fabbing up the mounting for the rack and pinion steering and as well as everything for going coilovers/3-link rear.

WISH ME LUCK!

Username: "paulcorolla" from japanesenostalgiccar

Looks like he welded some brackets and u-bolts to hold down the rack.

here's a link to his build thread:
http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/v ... ?f=9&t=126

I sent him a message about it a while back asking what advice he could give me:
Hey paulcorolla, I was just curious about the aw11 manual rack you swapped into your te27. Is it the same set up as the ae86 guys use to do the swap? with the mkIII supra shaft, aw11/tercel u joint?

And did you use your stock steering column or swap in a different one?

thanks! any help would be much appreciated. I'm planning on swapping the aw11 manual rack into my te21.
And this was his response:
Ya it's just a aw11 rack and ae86 column, no special shaft as the te27 is smaller than the 86 it all fit pretty easy.
I'm on the third or fourth Revision, if you have access to an 86 I would measure the distance of the rack from the control arms to ensure proper geometry from the get go.
I've moved mine a couple times to optimize geometry.
Good luck, it's pretty easy, and it makes the car much more enjoyable to drive.

^Thanks for the info!

I think I've seen those pictures before while searching. I do NOT like the way he has his rack mounted. It will definitely move around when driving the car hard on track. I just bought a whole crossmember to use the factory mounts, which I feel is best.

Yea I wouldnt trust that either. You could do it like that, but better to put the u-bolt against the bosses that stick out of the rack body to keep it from moving side to side.

Sweet. Same setup I have in the Celica. Crossmember will probably have to be modded to fit the narrower frame rails. AKA drill new holes LOL.

If anyone is interested, the rear GTS dust shields/caliper mounts are still available through Toyota...

...but the cost is $170 and the wait is two weeks :)

Someone PLEASE part/sell your rear GTS brakes! hahaha
