sooo, bt20v has proven useful once again. checking for spark had nothing on number 4 cylinder. change plug, no fix, change wire, no fix, he starts checking injector clips and it works. timing is set at 20+ degrees initial but it seems to like it there. pulls good needs a little fine tuning but it's running "right". gotta figure out why the ecu is acting up though. I've had an issue for a while now where if I drive calm and normal for 5 minutes the car won't rev. it's like it's struggling. kill the car for a few seconds, restart, and it pulls to the rev limiter. have 3 check engine codes, 6, 7, and 11. 6= G or Ne signal was not received when the engine was cranked for 2 seconds or longer, Ne signal was not received for 50 milliseconds when engine speed was over 1000 rpms. 7= throttle opening angle is open or short circuited(tps is unplugged). 11= a/c switch on or IDL points in the tps OFF(once again, tps is unplugged). Any ideas? This has been happening for a while now but if I'm constantly above 4k rpms it doesn't do it.

Double-check all your ground points are solid.

Outside of that, swap over an ignitor from a known good running 86. Next, a distributor from the same known good running 86.

You're sure all your timing marks line right up when the belt tensioner is tightened up?

yea the hesitation is weird when it acts up....the distributor is new and this has happened with him on all motors...I used to think ignitor was getting hot but with turning off the car and back on its gone and wont show up for a while.

Its happened to me driving his car like two or three engines ago. I think it's a build up somewhere in the harness somewhere, its the only thing that hasn't changed yet.

Everything has been replaced. Ignitor, distributor, sensors, maf, ecu, fuel pump, all fuses and relays, it's always done it on and off. All the grounds are good too.

maybe we will need to pull the harness open and look for damage.

even then, restarting it fixes it temporarily... even loading up on fuel would take more that a few seconds to clear out.

aside from the pre-existing issues, yes! and it pulls solidly to 7800 roms. the same drive it around for a bit and then have to restart issue is still there but it's been on and off for a while now so I just deal with it.
