New to the 86 family.

Hello everyone, just a quick intro.
You guys can call me Jay and I live in Austin, TX. I picked up my first zenki manual Sr-5 AE86 about a week ago on what I thought was a good deal ($725). About 6 months ago, one of my buddies was looking for a car and he wouldn't shut up about the AE86 so it got me curious and I ended up researching and coming across the rich racing tradition it has, and that was the first time I started picturing myself driving the car. However, being a young guy I don't think i've been able to explain to other people why I love the car without mentioning Initial D at some point but I'm working on it.

Good find and welcome to the family. This is proof Ppl don't need to be paying over 1k for sr5's. If your patient enuff you can find a gem for under $1000.

Thanks guys. I really dig the close knit feel of this forum and it's nice to know other 86 owners here in Austin. (Will probably need some tips on the 4ag swap in the future hehe. Not to mention I'm looking for a pair of zenki tails currently)

Yeah, salt can really do a number on oldies. Used to see it everytime when I lived in Omaha.

Btw, seems like one of the previous owners was considering either a Gts swap at one point or maybe building a weekend drifter. Car came with a one piece rearview mirror, an aftermarket exhaust and what looks to be a gts rear end. Haven't been able to test the lsd though since i've been having trouble turning it on. (battery is pretty dead) The "lsd oil only" sticker is there though. Any other distinctive features, perhaps on the pumpkin I may have missed? Really hope there is an lsd in there and not a open differential. Would be a nice bonus.

Just jack up the rear end with both tires off the ground. spin one tire and if the other side turns the same direction the it has an LSD or welded. If the other tire goes the other way then its an open diff.

Some people keep telling me car has to be turned on and then jacked up to check the wheels that wAy, or is that just a myth? I already turned the wheels with the car off, in neutral, and with the handbrake off as well. Wheels turned opposite.

With the rear tires off the ground doing the right rear tire, if the other rear tire spins the same way its LSD.

Or you could just rev to 4500rpm and dump the clutch. Then see how many wheel marks you leave.

Duh, you said you had that sticker. You have a gts rear end swapped.

An open diff will slip right in there so it doesn't hurt to be sure like what Corey and Ted-D suggested: lift the rear up and hand turn one of the wheels. The opposite side should turn in the same direction indicating LSD. If it spins in the opposite direction then it's an open diff.
