So the speedo drive in my 86 decided it REALLY liked the sheath it had been spinning in for near 30 years and gave it a nice big hug. It bound to the inside of the sheath and the drive end sheared off.
For those of you who have broken drives, but good sheaths my local Toyota parts guy suggested an AC Delco product which is a "trim to length" speedo drive. It includes a long drive and an attachable drive end which he says is epoxied on after trimming.
Sounds awesome, except I haven't yet been able to remove the death grip my drive has on it's sheath. I need a new speedo cable assembly. I can't find one new.
SO!
Do any cars of similar vintage have a compatible speedo cable? MA70? FC3S? Z31?
How long is the manual trans AE86 cable? I'd like an idea before digging in the yards, though I guess I'll be taking mine out to check mating compatibility ANYWAY!

Re: speedo cable availability
I am not sure about compatibility, you might try an MR2. There are a few for sale on e-bay too ... they are kind of proud of them though.

Re: speedo cable availability
Great video, and if it comes to it I'm sure I have an AW11 cable around here somewhere I could butcher in an attempt to make it work, but for the sake of argument I didn't see him once use a wire cutters.milchmann wrote:Different type of cable, same process minus the brazing.
