A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
Got the final weld done today, really ready for my days off. Here's a few shots of our shitty welds.

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
Prothane kit showed up today finally, will be putting the coilovers on this weekend!
While I was sleeping today 2 buddies of mine surprised me by doing some sanding on the car, they got the entire front clip done with the limited supplies they had. I should be able to knock the rest out this weekend as well and hopefully get some primer laid down. Then I just have to figure out how to take care of this paint situation.

Plasti-Dip perhaps?
Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
I was actually considering that but have no experience with it. Are you able to use a power washer to clean your car off or will that remove it?

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
Just pm me when you get ready to do it and we'll talk.
Got most of all of the body sanded today, still have to hit the bodykit and we laid down some bondo on the few dents in the paint. I also go the front coils in but forget we needed a puller to get the knuckles off the old LCA's. We plan on putting it down on the ground tomorrow and I'll post pics of how it looks then from a wider view!
Passenger side Coils/stainless brake lines installed.
Driver side Coils/Stainless brake lines installed.
Rear of the car post bondo....
Friend notated all the dents etc with a marker after the first sand, I laughed when I found this dent.
We also got some bushings installed but it was too dark to really see them in the pics so I left it out. Disassembling the old calipers/rotors to get to the lugs and swap them out with LS400 lugs was a huge pain in the ass, you can see the lugs in one of the shots.
Early day tomorrow to get the rest done, I'm going to drink some more with some friends then pass out. Anyone going to Mexican Standoff on Sunday?

Just got word I'll be heading to Florida for a work trip for my usual 7 days off, sucks I won't get any progress done but this should give me some cash for plastidip/paint.

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
after 15 days straight of work I should be able to get some stuff done this Wed, Thurs.
I do have a few question regarding cams if anyone can chime in. I picked up some TRD 272 cams and from what I understand these should drop in with no need for valve adjustment, however, if things go south and they need different size shims where would I purchase them? Also, I will not have adjustable cam gears since I plan on getting by with the bare minimum spent on this 4age until I swap out a more powerful engine, so will these require adjustable gears?
weekly goals: Install cams, install rear SS brake lines and extended studs, sand body kit/flares/hard to reach spots, install wheels and set it on the ground and hopefully get a good look at it from outside the garage.
Main Goal: Unveiling at Lone Star Bash. Interior/engine/rear end will still need to be completed but those can be taken at a much slower pace.
EDIT: IF things go the way they are supposed to would you guys be interested in having a meet/rollout for Lone Star Bash?

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
I wouldn't bank on those cams just dropping in and being able to rock em. Sometimes you can get away with "re-arranging" the shims to make it work. The Dr. Tried starting a "shim bank", but it didn't take off very well. Just gotta find someone that stripped down a head or two. You can buy them new, but they are damn pricey. Same with the buckets the shims sit in. There's a handy tool that makes swapping cams a breeze. Shims are all over the place. I'm sure Dr. Occa, McKenney, Lattanzi, or Thaison have some laying around. I have shims for 2 complete heads if the sizes work that is.
When I swapped my GZE cams out for my bluetop ones I think 2 valves on the intake side were shimmed correctly. Other than that I had to play musical shims. Also don't get me wrong you could probably drop those cams in and go, but it wouldn't be the best choice. An hour or so playing with shins will make your head like you even longer lol!
